Welcome, Zachary Hass! A recent graduate of Alfred State with his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Zach joins our Rochester office as Design Engineer and will be working as part of the HVAC group. Prior to M/E, Zach worked for Glenn M Hass Construction where he gained experience in all aspects of the construction process, assisting in renovations to various commercial and residential buildings. These renovations included installing new structures, updating systems, and replacing worn components to bring buildings up to current codes. Some other noteworthy projects of Zach’s during school include his contributions in the design of mechanical closets, a carousel, and Angled Vice. The 63,000 square-foot industrial building from the 1970s has undergone a complete gut renovation. Key upgrades include: ➜ Modernized building envelope ➜ Electric air source heat pumps replacing the old gas system ➜ Energy recovery ventilation for better indoor air quality Now, the building operates without fossil fuels, preventing 423.9 metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. Its energy use intensity is projected to be 40% lower than a typical warehouse. Plus, with a 417kW rooftop solar PV array, Launchbox is on track to achieve net zero energy consumption. M/E provided design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, lighting, and power for the new expansion of the Strong Museum. The project included a new central heating plant, an updated central cooling plant, and upgraded utility service and emergency power system for the entire facility. In this 2018 expansion project, the museum was provided more storage space for collections, new exhibits and classrooms, and a new home for the World Video Game Hall of Fame and its Women in Games Initiative.
