For and about the women in agriculture

About us

Women in Ag Magazine is a new quarterly digital magazine for and about the women in agriculture, launched on International Women's Day 2021. Our goal is to empower women in all the branches of agriculture worldwide by sharing positive, inspiring and informative stories from their colleagues from around the world. Without shying away from opening the conversation about the equality and perception issues that come with being a woman in agriculture, Women in Ag chooses a constructive approach and wants to help bring about a positive change by showcasing the abilities and realisations of the women in our industry. Women in Ag is one of the three magazines published by AKA Media, a Belgium-based publishing house and communication agency specialised in the agriculture industry.

Women in Ag Magazine 2024-002 is out now! The new issue of Women in Ag Magazine is out! This new issue illustrates what the spring of 2024 has been for us: busy, a rollercoaster of emotions and filled with inspiring encounters. We visited a farm run by four generations of women during our holiday in the south of France, introduce our new mental health partner and went on a very yummy farm visit in the Netherlands. Our first encounter is Petra Mayböck-Froschauer, egg farmer in the Austrian town of Taufkirchen an den Pram. Petra took over her parents’ farm as an only daughter and has never even been questioned about who’s the boss on her farm. Next, we give you a glimpse of our holiday in the south of France and the wonderful day we spent on the Ferme Notre Dame farm, run by Marie-Claude, Isabelle, Solenne and Isaure. Our next stop is Mezquital, Mexico where influencer Gina Gutierrez advocates for her profession of dairy farmer with her Facebook and Instagram pages La Vida Láctea . We also had the opportunity to talk to Dr. Ute David, AGCO Corporation Plant Manager in Feucht, Germany, who is this issue’s Outsider. Our More Than Farming feature is an absolute treat: we have a visit to a chocolate factory in store for you! Linda Kopczinski runs Boerinlinda, her artisan chocolate workshop where she creates bonbons based on the milk provided by Brownie the cow. This edition, we introduce our new mental health awareness partner The Do More Agriculture Foundation , who will provide us with mental health advice from now on. For this issue, they addressed loneliness on the farm (and what to do). For our book review, Antoon took a French book with him on holiday and read Les Sillons que l’on Trace by Anne-Cécile Suzanne. Unfortunately, there’s no translation to English available yet but the book comes highly recommended by the French farming community. Last but not least, our columnist Judith De Vor talks about politics and the place of women there. A very hot topic in this election year for Europe, the UK and the USA. The third edition of the Women in Ag Awards 2024 at EuroTier Hannover is confirmed and subscriptions are open! Read all about the awards and how to participate in the magazine. As always, you can support Women in Ag Magazine by becoming one of the 100 for WiA. Your help allows us to continue building to empower the amazing women in agriculture throughout the world. Happy reading! Kim. Happy birthday to us! International Women’s Day 2024 marked the third anniversary of Women in Ag Magazine, launched on 8 March 2021. In those three years of existence, what started as an idea grew into not just a magazine, but a beautiful community of women and supportive men in agriculture around the world. That is a feat I am truly proud of and thankful for. This anniversary issue of Women in Ag Mag contains one inspiring story after the other from women with different views on agriculture, different ways to practice it and encountering very different issues. Delphine Ladouce, our first “Encounter”, is a conventional veal and chicken farmer from the south of Belgium who works hard for more equality for women in agriculture as vice-president of the Walloon Union of Female Farmers Union des Agricultrices Wallonnes. She is followed by a woman I personally admire, and it is truly an honour that Karen Washington, New York urban farmer and food justice activist, joined this issue of Women in Ag. Our third encounter is Marianna Briançon , who won the Miss France Agriculture title in 2022 and has been a passionate advocate for agriculture since. Laura Vallejo Castro from Spain is this issue’s influencer. She won the Best Instagrammer International Award at Agritechnica in November, impressing the jury with her honest sharing on her work as a forestry worker. Lucie Oger, also from France, tells us how she started her own business on the parental dairy farm by making cheese; and Renate Neulinger joins us from Pöttinger as our “Outsider”. In “Fair”, Event Program Manager Natalie Green presents the very first edition of FutureAg Powered by Agritechnica in Melbourne, Australia. We are also happy to introduce our new columnist, Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust, agvocate and Global Farmer Network member Judith De Vor from the Netherlands. We know she will do a great job! Last but not least, Women in Ag launches its very first feature of “Women in power” where we talk to women of influence. We kick off with an interview with MEP Hilde Vautmans, politician and big defender of agriculture. For this issue’s book review, editor Antoon had a lot of fun reading “The Farm Report: Confessions of a Single Farm Lady” by Susie Crosby. Women in Ag is still looking for support in order to be able to continue our work. Our “100 for WiA” campaign is still running, collecting donations from companies or personal donations in order to support our team. You can donate here: https://lnkd.in/eB9--gCV Do you have a story to share with us? We are always looking for inspiring women to feature in the magazine or on our website, so get in touch here: https://lnkd.in/eGjuT6kZ Click here to read the magazine. It is digital and completely free! https://lnkd.in/es_HPknD Happy reading, Kim. Husqvarna Group DLG e.V. - German Agricultural Society

Last Sunday might have seemed like an ordinary day to most, but for women and girls in science, it is a very important one. On February 11, we celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The initiative comes from the United Nations, in an effort to call attention to a persistent issue in terms of gender equality: the still significant gender gap in STEM all over the world. Two women who unintentionally show the way to young women in agriculture by being great at their technical jobs are Claudia Campanella and Angela Falagario. This week, we celebrate them and all the women in agtech who show the younger generations of women that it is possible. Because, as we know, representation matters. Even though women have made a lot of progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics or STEM, a UN press release states. In an industry that is still very male-oriented as a whole, the gap is arguably even bigger in scientific and technical fields. The best way to motivate young girls to pursue a scientific or technical career in agriculture is by doing it, and that is where women like Claudia and Angela make a significant difference. Let’s meet Claudia. https://lnkd.in/dU_rExzr Thank you, New Holland Agriculture , for being the cheerleaders of the women in your company! #womeninag #womeninagmag #womeninagriculture #womeninSTEM

Another year came and went... The fourth issue of Women in Ag Mag has been published, bringing the magazine's third year to a close. Over the passed few years, we have been working hard on our content. Now it is time to level up. Our newsletter is part of that, you should see more of us on social media as well and we will certainly be more present at agricultural tradeshows in the future. This festive edition of Women in Ag Mag brings you more inspiring stories from different parts of the world. In our "Encounters", we talk to dairy farmer Kate Hoare (UK), who won the Women in Ag Awards in the "Farmer" category at Agritechnica. Iris, who has no background in agriculture, grows saffron in Belgium; and our third encounter, Melissa, is a beef farmer and daughter of a matriarchy in the UK. We also talked to one of the winners of the Agri-Influencer Award at Agritechnica, traveled to Austria where Kornelia Zipper tries to bridge the gap between consumers and farmers with "Afterwork on the Farm" and had a heart to heart with Priscila, who is fighting for a fair price for cocoa farmers and equality for women in agriculture in Equatorial Guinea. As always, Erica Leniczek offers advice on mental health and Melanie Epp reflects on the powerful women she met in 2023. Furthermore, we look back at the "Ladies Day" at Agribex in Brussels (BE) and look ahead to Fira in Toulouse (FR). Would you like to support Women in Ag Magazine, personally or with your company? Our "100 for WiA" campaign is still running. We could really use your help to further develop our beautiful project and further build this community for women in agriculture around the world. In light of what is happening in the world today, I wish you warm and safe holidays and express my sincere hope for a world where warmth, safety, full bellies, clean water, decent medical care and human rights are not just for the privileged few. Let's appreciate what we have even more this year and show kindness and compassion to those who are not so lucky. More than ever, the world needs kindness and compassion. From the safety of my home to - I hope - yours, Happy reading, Kim.   Read the magazine here: https://lnkd.in/evdJUdgz

When Belgium's agriculture fair Agribex asked us what we could do together for their Ladies Day, we knew we wanted to go for a "most woman-friendly tractor of the fair" award! Today, a 100% female jury composed of farmers and our editor in chief Kim Schoukens , rated 22 tractors on their looks, accessibility, ergonomy, spaciousness of the cabin and "female touch" (e.g. room for kids/baby). The competition was meant to be relaxed and fun, but also to raise awareness. The winners are: 🏆 -150 hp: New Holland Agriculture T5.140 🏆 +150 hp: Fendt 728 Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants for their enthusiasm, special attentions for women today, for listening and thinking with us. It was amazing to exchange ideas! We hope this is the start of a tradition 🙏 Stay tuned for the press release! Steven van Kooten Niekerk Marie Mouton Carlo Alberto Sisto Julien Vanderhaeghe

How has it been one week already? After months of preparation, hours of meetings and planning, the second edition of the Women in Ag Awards took place at Agritechnica last Wednesday. For me, it was the conclusion of my very first presence at the world’s biggest agriculture machinery fair. The end of five very interesting, but also intensive days in Hannover. As I stood there at the DLG booth in hall 24, two hours early because this control freak needs to see the stage well beforehand and have some time to mentally prepare for public appearances, the timeline of the passed two and a half years flashed through my nervous mind...
