When Belgium's agriculture fair Agribex asked us what we could do together for their Ladies Day, we knew we wanted to go for a "most woman-friendly tractor of the fair" award! Today, a 100% female jury composed of farmers and our editor in chief Kim Schoukens , rated 22 tractors on their looks, accessibility, ergonomy, spaciousness of the cabin and "female touch" (e.g. room for kids/baby). The competition was meant to be relaxed and fun, but also to raise awareness. The winners are: 🏆 -150 hp: New Holland Agriculture T5.140 🏆 +150 hp: Fendt 728 Congratulations to the winners and to all the participants for their enthusiasm, special attentions for women today, for listening and thinking with us. It was amazing to exchange ideas! We hope this is the start of a tradition 🙏 Stay tuned for the press release! Steven van Kooten Niekerk Marie Mouton Carlo Alberto Sisto Julien Vanderhaeghe

🔚 🙏 Feeling very grateful as we've wrapped up the CropLife Europe Annual Conference, Envisioning Tomorrow’s Agriculture: Building the toolbox #AgInnovation. Over the past two days, it has become abundantly clear that the future of #agriculture is about the policies we enact, the innovations we embrace, and the knowledge we share. Empowering our 👨🌾 farmers 👩🌾 demands an outcome-based policy framework that should not only support diverse agricultural value chains but also respect the unique differences across our regions and countries. Such an approach doesn't just bolster the resilience of our agricultural sector; it enhances its #sustainability, #productivity, and #competitiveness. Strengthening the performance of 🇪🇺 agriculture requires a Collective Agriculture Policy #CAP that embraces every farming approach. 🔬 Encouraging uptake and training in R&D is crucial for the continued advancement of our sector. We must provide the regulatory certainty necessary for such investments, creating an environment where #innovation thrives and flourishes. As we look to the future 🔮 let us collaborate to forge a policy framework that empowers, an innovation ecosystem that fortifies, and a research and development culture that propels us forward. Thank you to all the participants, and a special acknowledgement to my colleagues, the CropLife Europe Team, for all of their work in organising this conference. None of this could happen without you! 🤗

Leadership Coach for the AgriFood Industry, Corporate Innovation Consultant, Keynote Speaker, Future Food Podcast Host
I'm home now after 3 intense weeks of travel including 2 back-to-back conferences on regen ag in Europe One conference took place in the countryside of Germany and was filled with people who work with the land. The other conference was in the historical Amsterdam trading hall and filled with corporations. Today, I sat in a cafe to digest all my notes. Here are some of my key learnings from all the keynotes, panels, and conversations: 1. There is no regen ag bachelors program in Europe, but there is ONE masters program. This is crazy. Most students go to school for 3 years only to unlearn everything they were taught. If you know of a regen ag school in Europe, please drop it in the comments. I'm making a list! 2. I met an awesome female farmer who told me she wouldn't be able to run the farm without her husband's help. Most farm machinery is designed for men and doesn't fit the female body. Idea for John Deere or Caterpillar to come out with a line for female farmers? 3. The corporate definition for regen ag seems to only include cover cropping and no till. This is just the tip of the iceberg and won't move the needle. 4. Since regen ag exists on a spectrum and there is no common definition, it's important that all parties share how they engage in the practice to ensure a fruitful & honest discussion. 5. A lot of corporations have made 2030 claims, but when we look at the number of hectares under transition the math doesn't add up. If corporations are serious about transitioning their supply chains, much more investment is needed to transition cropland to make these claims a reality. 6. Many regen farmers that are profitable have a D2C business model and are skipping over the middle men. TBD what other profitable business models could be and what this would look like at scale. 7. Many corporations have big issues around traceability and transparency in their supply chains. They have no idea who the farmer is that is supplying them and few relationships that far upstream. This makes cooperation difficult and is a challenge that will need to be overcome. A la point #7, the reality is that farmers and corporations aren't talking to each other. This was evident at both conferences. At the corporate one, there were no farmers. At the farmer one, there were no corporations and yet the whole time they talked about each other. So many great solutions and innovations could be unlocked if executives and pioneering farmers actually sat in the same room and listened to each others challenges. As part of Top 50 Farmers, we're putting together mastermind groups that bring pioneering regen farmers and corporate execs together to ideate and collaborate. Each mastermind has a theme and consists of 10-12 people who meet quarterly. The themes include transition financing, biodiverse supply chains, and climate risk resilience. If you work for a corporation and would like to learn more about joining a group, shoot me a DM for more info.

Senior Executive in Digital Business and Governance, PhD | Ex-Meta, Global Strategy Team | Independent Board Member | Former Director of Alliances & Institutional Engagement
Kicking off with Gratitude. A tremendous thank you to the dedicated organizers of the 7th AVF Summit and to all who made it possible! Great to share the stage and delve into the nuances of the food chain while adding simplicity and warm innovation to the approach; alongside esteemed colleagues—Jia Ni from FAO, Eva Keretic from The Future Food Campus Hamburg and Peter Wogenstein Repr. Ernährungsrat. Well done Association for Vertical Farming and supporters Seoul Semiconductor, SANANBIO | Vertical Farming Solution Provider and Messe Dortmund GmbH. It was particularly fulfilling to see the positive influence our panel had on discussions surrounding DEI. A shout-out to the transformative approach by the United Nations’ FAO Green Cities Initiative and VertiFarm in Dortmund, pivotal in refining the direction and approach. Being present alongside Marcos Enriquez, the founder of ISIFARMER | Madrid Vertical Farming Innovation Hub, with my role of independent board member, offered an opportunity to infuse varied perspectives into the conversations across the summit. It was noteworthy the networking, leveraging the presence in the fair to cultivate connections and explore collaborations. Roadmap: Key 1st idea: Innovation for Sustainability. There’s an opportunity to empower urban farmers by developing vertical farms, sharing costs and laying the groundwork for expansion. There's a quest to make agricultural technology accessible and inclusive, fostering communities that are both empowered and sustainable. Key 2nd idea: Gratitude to Madrid Food Innovation Hub for the endorsement and support. ISIFARMER is at the forefront of an opportunity to innovate for sustainability in the heart of the cities, providing additional healthy food options to urban communities. Also, addressing challenges. Venturing into micro farming in urban environments requieres dedication. Through strategic empowerment, community engagement, and advocacy for supportive policies, there’s a real opportunity for successful integration of vertical farming in urban settings. Hyper-Local Approach & DEI Commitment: Super rewarding the receptiveness to champion a hyper-local approach to optimize resource utilization and enhance traceability, with a steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in urban farming opportunities. Here’s to a future of sustainability, inclusivity, and shared progress. #GreenCities #Board #Sustainability #Innovation
