Advanced technologies like deep learning, computer vision, and natural language processing are revolutionizing factory automation. Imagine factories as smart, self-adjusting systems, made possible by these advancements combined with super-fast, reliable connections. However, implementing AI in factories goes beyond just algorithms and connectivity. It requires powerful, energy-saving hardware that can handle massive amounts of data instantly, often in tough working conditions. In this case study, we'll explore how Alif Semiconductor microcontrollers and fusion processors, equipped with specialized AI hardware, empower industries to leverage the power of AI without sacrificing performance, reliability, or energy efficiency. #factoryautomation #AIfactory #intelligentfactory #NPU #neuralprocessing #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #ML

Ultra-Low Power MCU Achieves 46GOPS Performance Supplied in a compact size format (with only a 3.9mm x 3.9mm footprint), the Ensemble E1C microcontroller unit (MCU) from Alif Semiconductor will be pivotal in bringing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to systems that are restricted in terms of their available space and power resources. This device features an Arm Cortex-M55 computational core (supporting 160MHz speeds) with a Helium vector processing extension. Alongside that, it has an Arm Ethos-U55 network processing unit (NPU) capable of 46GOPS operation, plus up to 2MBytes of SRAM memory reserve. Thanks to the aiPM power management element incorporated, it is possible to dynamically power-up just the logic and associated memory being required at that time. When in the lowest of its 4 power mode levels, only 700nA of current is consumed. MIPI DSI, USB 2.0, SDIO, 2x CAN FD and I3C interfaces are all included, as well as high-resolution data conversion functions. Its compactness and modest power demands make the E1C MCU highly suited to use in IoT hardware. Though streamlined, it shares the same architecture as the company’s Balletto family - allowing for software re-use across the complete platform and thereby making migration between different device options more straightforward. “Alif already blazed a new trail in the industry for powerful and extremely efficient localised ML with the Ensemble family, and the new E1C series products squeeze those same capabilities into a smaller space with even more power-efficiency,” notes Reza Kazerounian.... It was a great time at the tinyML Foundation's Innovation Forum in Milan. Alif Semiconductor's Jerome Schang had the exciting opportunity to join a panel and delve into the challenges designers are facing in the world of embedded AI. A major hurdle for designers is being locked into proprietary tool ecosystems, making it hard to switch between different microcontroller families (MCUs) without a complete redesign. Alif tackles this by offering a network of tools built on open-source options that are compatible across any of our MCU families. This allows designers to seamlessly move between devices without starting from scratch, removing a critical barrier of entry to Artificial Intelligence. #tinyml #ml #machinelearning #artificalintelligence

Check out this license plate reader that is running two separate pre-trained machine learning models. The first model identifies if there are license plates in frame, and if so, where they are located. Meanwhile, the second model identifies all symbols in the license place and converts them to text. Multiple plates can be detected and decoded at the same time, with a total inference time, including pre and post processing of image data, of only 200 ms! 🔷 Both models are executed in place from external OSPI connected NVM 🔷 Tensor arena RAM use is approximately 2MB 🔷 Quantized model sizes are 5.2MB for Detection, and 11MB for Decoding 🔷 Helium accelerated ISP pipeline executing on Arm Cortex-M55 core ipXchange Jerome Schang #cortexm55 #cortex #arm Arm #machinelearning #artificalintelligence

How to slash power consumption for AI vision! Dividing the workload with Alif’s E3 MCU We at ipXchange have wanted to share this demo for ages, so it was great to catch up with Jerome Schang at Hardware Pioneers Max 2024 and see Alif Semiconductor’s number plate recognition demo running on the dual-core E3 Ensemble MCU. As with Alif’s other devices, the E3 features a Cortex-M55 core supported by an Ethos-U55 NPU. In fact, the E3 features two of these pairings, enabling you to split your AI workload in two to save power by better qualifying the need for additional AI processing. How does this work? Find out by watching the full interview on the ipXchange website: https://lnkd.in/gkh59hAF Keep designing! #embedded #mcu #microcontroller #endpointAI #edgeAI #cortexm55 #ethosu55 #armcortex #ai #ml #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #electronics #electronicsengineering #aivision #aicamera #numberplaterecognition #licenseplaterecognition #aicamera
