Ultra-Low Power MCU Achieves 46GOPS Performance Supplied in a compact size format (with only a 3.9mm x 3.9mm footprint), the Ensemble E1C microcontroller unit (MCU) from Alif Semiconductor will be pivotal in bringing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to systems that are restricted in terms of their available space and power resources. This device features an Arm Cortex-M55 computational core (supporting 160MHz speeds) with a Helium vector processing extension. Alongside that, it has an Arm Ethos-U55 network processing unit (NPU) capable of 46GOPS operation, plus up to 2MBytes of SRAM memory reserve. Thanks to the aiPM power management element incorporated, it is possible to dynamically power-up just the logic and associated memory being required at that time. When in the lowest of its 4 power mode levels, only 700nA of current is consumed. MIPI DSI, USB 2.0, SDIO, 2x CAN FD and I3C interfaces are all included, as well as high-resolution data conversion functions. Its compactness and modest power demands make the E1C MCU highly suited to use in IoT hardware. Though streamlined, it shares the same architecture as the company’s Balletto family - allowing for software re-use across the complete platform and thereby making migration between different device options more straightforward. “Alif already blazed a new trail in the industry for powerful and extremely efficient localised ML with the Ensemble family, and the new E1C series products squeeze those same capabilities into a smaller space with even more power-efficiency,” notes Reza Kazerounian....
