Some amazing images here from our UK agronomist Megan Edmonds - Mealy Aphids in WOSR (Winter Oil Seed Rape)! Mealy Cabbage Aphid infestations affect vegetable brassicas as can lead to malformed foliage, contamination of produce, yield loss and even plant death! The pests are also a vector of several viruses, dangerous to other crops. Despite this, farmers will often choose to avoid using insecticides on them as they want to protect the natural predators and pollinators which are also in the crop around flowering - It seems only ladybirds love them! #mealyaphids #wosr #fieldtrials

Take a look at these photos below of an Apple Woolly Aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum) trial in Newent Gloucestershire.     Taken by our agronomist Megan Edmonds, these fluffy aphids are considered by Meg as the ‘rockstars’ of the aphid world!   Do not be deceived however, these pests are common on edible and ornamental apple trees, producing a white waxy 'fluff' that can be mistaken for fungal growth and lumpy swellings on the bark. Despite the rain delaying migration from the main over-wintering colonies, we were still able to conduct this trial successfully and the pressure is high in the untreated plots   In another trial nearby, Meg is looking at Fungicide programmes for control of Apple Scab (VENTIN) and the pressure in the untreated plots are certainly building after a season of wet and warm weather.   #woollyaphids #apples #rockstars
