Last mile distributors (#LMDs) are undeniably #innovative, but innovating in the #lastmiledistribution sector can pose significant risks and financial challenges. That’s where we, as #TheGDC, step in!💥 🤌🏾Our Innovation Launchpad is designed to assist GDC members in adapting and adopting proven innovations. In the inaugural cohort of the #GDCInnovationLaunchpad, a small group of GDC members, labeled as "innovation adopters," will have the opportunity to engage with two other members recognised as "innovation trailblazers". 💡The innovation adopters will benefit from the experiences and lessons learned of trailblazers SolarAid Zambia/SunnyMoney Malawi and Frontier Markets in last-mile repair services and e-commerce, respectively. Additionally, adopters will receive technical assistance and grant funding to spearhead the innovation within their own company, while the trailblazers full support and funding from the GDC to impart their knowledge and insights to the cohort of innovation adopters. 🥳We are excited to witness this initiative come to life and are highly anticipative of the ground-breaking innovations that GDC members will craft in the realms of #ecommerce and last-mile #repairservices. 🙏🏾Special thanks to Transforming Energy Access for their invaluable support for our Innovation work, and to Fred Mwale (SolarAid) and Ajaita S. (Frontier Markets) for their enlightening insights and experiences shared in the videos below. 📽Solar Aid – https://lnkd.in/d7SdQ2Gd 📽Frontier Markets - https://lnkd.in/dRVpntif 🔗Learn more about our Innovation Launchpad: https://lnkd.in/duZ-pcAM With Bopinc Gerwin Jansen Roald Klumpenaar MovingWorlds #innovation #inclusivebusiness #businessforgood #businessmodels #energyaccess #offgridsolar #distribution #startups #lastmilerepairservices

❔Are you looking to take your #lastmiledistribution (LMD) company to the next level? Do you want to learn about the different pathways to scale up your operations and solve immediate issues for last mile communities? Look no further than our new #blogpost at NextBillion.net ! ✍Co-authored by Russell Lyseight, Head of the GDC, and Emma Colenbrander, Managing Director at Spring Impact, this post explores successful approaches taken by LMD companies to scale their businesses. We also share resources designed by Spring Impact to help you make informed decisions and ensure a seamless scaling journey. ⚡Discover two common pathways to scale in the LMD sector: "𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬" and "𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦." Since LMDs focus on solving immediate issues of making beneficial products available to last mile communities, the "Path to Scale Up Solutions" is prevalent in the sector. 📈The most common pathway LMDs adopt to scale their solutions is branching. #GDCMembers like Bidhaa Sasa, Sistema.bio / Sistema Biobolsa and Nazava Water Filters, among others, have successfully established wholly-owned organisational units managed and controlled by the central organisation, with local staff running the branch and directly reporting to the central office. 💥In addition, strategic partnerships are the second most common scaling pathway adopted by LMDs. Members like Pollinate Group, Essmart and Solar Sister have collaborated with one or more partners to jointly deliver solutions. ❕Don't miss out on learning about other exciting approaches adopted by our members, including LiveWell Zambia, SolarAid, Frontier Markets and Pollinate Group. Click the link below to read more. 🔗https://lnkd.in/drS8D494. 📣We welcome you to share and/or take advantage of these insights and resources to scale your business and make a lasting impact in last mile communities. 🙏Thank you to British International Investment for supporting this piece. #inclusivebusiness #businessforgood #businessmodels #energyaccess #offgridsolar #distribution

What is the difference between scale and growth? How can #lastmiledistributors extend their reach and impact by scaling in a “lean” way, that doesn’t break the bank? 🤔 Last week, we brought together a cohort of last mile distributors from across sub-Saharan #Africa to dive into these questions - and more - at #TheGDC Scaling Workshop for Impact-Driven Businesses, in Nairobi, Kenya. What a way to end the month! 💭 Over two days, participants heard firsthand how Bidhaa Sasa developed and rolled out the LEAP Scaling Tool to expand their operations from Kenya into Uganda (including dos, don’ts, and lessons learned). Participants also assessed their own readiness to scale and designed lean scaling pilots to consider how they’ll go about expanding their operations into new, underserved markets in an adaptive way. We can’t wait to work with these companies over the coming months to help them drive forward these plans, and to see the impact their work will have – not only on their existing customers but on the new communities that they reach. 💥 Thank you to British International Investment for supporting this initiative, and to the Bidhaa Sasa team for sharing your wisdom with us! ❓ Want to find out more about scaling in last mile distribution?
