About us
The Energy Institute (EI) is the chartered professional membership body for people who work across the world of energy. Our purpose is creating a better energy future for our members and society by accelerating a just global energy transition to net zero. We do this by: -Attracting, developing and equipping the diverse future energy workforce -Informing energy decision-making through convening expertise and advice -Enabling industry and consumers to make energy lower carbon, safer and more efficient A registered charity, incorporated by Royal Charter in 2003, the EI is licensed by the Engineering Council (UK) to offer Chartered, Incorporated and Engineering Technician status to engineers, and by the Society for the Environment to award Chartered Environmentalist status. We are also unique in granting Chartered Energy Manager status. The EI was set up in 2003 as a result of a merger between the Institute of Petroleum (IP) and the Institute of Energy (InstE). Both Institutes had a proud and distinguished heritage developed over many years supporting their particular energy sectors. Increasingly these sectors have converged, creating an integrated global energy market which has been mirrored by the development of the Energy Institute - established to address both the depth and breadth of the subject. Today , the EI is home to a range of collaborative initiatives, including the G+ Global Offshore Wind Health and Safety Organisation, SafetyOn and POWERful Women. We host the annual International Energy Week, EI Awards, publish New Energy World Magazine and the Energy Barometer, and provide the Toolbox web app helping the energy workforce learn lessons from incidents and get home safe.

Delighted to share that I have been elected to the Energy Institute's Council of Trustees. Thank you to my sponsors/ supporters - Georgina Nick Graeme Nicole - and wider EI members for your encouragement and support. I look forward to working with Nick, Andy, Cordi, Tim, Juliet and the wider Council and EI team on the hugely important mission of accelerating a just, global energy transition to net zero. With all my work on the demand side of the transition - decarbonising transport, homes and businesses - I hope to bring that additional lens of thinking and work to be done, to the EI. In the meantime, the most recent 73rd (!) Statistical Review of World Energy is a brilliant treasure trove of insight on the Energy Transition and the pace of change needed if we are to come anywhere close to delivering net zero - https://lnkd.in/eTBCZt3g. Would highly recommend a read through the key highlights! #energytransition #energyinstitute #demandside

♀♀♀♀♀♀♀♂♂♂♂♂ That's the gender split of the Energy Institute's new governing Council, confirmed at our AGM yesterday. It's come about by being open to appointing and electing the best and most committed in our field. I'm temped to say it's as simple as that but many organisations do seem to struggle. By coincidence, it's almost exactly the same proportions as in our exec team and across our whole staff. And IMHO it makes us all more effective, more interesting and more human. 🌞The UK's potential as a solar superpower Despite its rainy climate, the UK can still become a #solar superpower, according to Gurpreet Gujral, Managing Director, Atrato Group. Abundant sunshine isn't a prerequisite for successful solar energy development, and large installations on commercial building roofs can significantly boost solar power deployment: https://ow.ly/g7Ge50SyymQ 🗃️Don’t forget, you can access New Energy World’s full archive until 31 July for FREE: https://ow.ly/F1fG50SyymP #NewEnergyWorld, the magazine of the #EnergyInstitute.

I am deeply honoured to have been elected as President of the Energy Institute today. The Institute is a global body of energy professionals and companies which has set itself a mission to help accelerate a just energy transition for all. Today there are few global challenges more important than this! The Energy Institute, led by Nick Wayth CEng FEI FIMechE, delivers an excellent blend of energy information, technical and safety leadership and guidance as well as training and development to a broad stakeholder base including its membership of 20,000 energy professionals, 200 partner companies as well as key decision makers and consumers across the world. The activities of the EI are well summarised in the attached video that was launched in today’s AGM. https://lnkd.in/eUpTRsmM I am inspired by what has been achieved to date under Juliet Davenport's Presidency, but at the same time daunted by the size of challenge we all still face. I am convinced the Energy Institute can play an even bigger role in the future as more consumers, professionals and companies try to work out what their role can be in driving a just energy transition. I just hope I can play my part in supporting the Energy Institute in fulfilling its crucial mission! I welcome all Energy Professionals across the world to learn more and become involved in our mission, creating a better energy future. #energytransition
