The Strategic Sourcing Manager plays a critical role in an organization's supply chain and procurement department. This position is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the various processes and activities related to procurement and sourcing of goods and services. This role will be a key player in an organization's efforts to source goods and services efficiently, control costs, and maintain strong supplier relationships. Job Description
The Strategic Sourcing Manager plays a critical role in an organization's supply chain and procurement department. This position is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the various processes and activities related to procurement and sourcing of goods and services. This role will be a key player in an organization's efforts to source goods and services efficiently, control costs, and maintain strong supplier relationships. Please note this is an individual contributor role and does not currently have any direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Procurement: Develop and execute procurement strategies that align with the organization's goals and budget, ensuring efficient and cost-effective sourcing of goods and services.
- Supplier Management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, assess their performance, negotiate terms and conditions, and identify potential new vendors to enhance the supplier base.
- Cost Control: Monitor and manage procurement budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement cost-effective strategies to optimize procurement operations.
- Inventory Management: Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper inventory levels, minimizing excess or obsolete stock, and maximizing inventory turnover.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with the procurement process, including supply chain disruptions, regulatory changes, and quality control issues.
- Reporting and Analytics: Develop and maintain reporting systems to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to understand their needs and become a trusted partner
- Lead complex negotiations and manage all operational aspects of the contracts
- Conduct extensive market research and analysis to understand industry trends and category insight
- Drive process improvements within the sourcing workflows, tools and reports
- At least 8 years of experience contributing to a Strategic Sourcing and Procurement team (preferably within a multinational context)
- A bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is typically required. A master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CSCP, CPIM, CPM) may be preferred.
- Experience: Several years of progressive experience in procurement and supply chain management, with a track record of managing procurement operations effectively.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team of procurement professionals.
- Negotiation Skills: Excellent negotiation and contract management abilities to secure favorable terms with suppliers.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis and the ability to use data to make informed procurement decisions.
- Communication: Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers and senior management.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with procurement regulations, ethical sourcing practices, and sustainability standards.
- Technology Proficiency: Experience with procurement software and systems, as well as knowledge of emerging procurement technologies.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address procurement challenges and optimize operations.
