About The North America Region

Spellman employs approximately 1,500 employees across Canada, the US, and Mexico. The North America region encompasses 3 locations in the US, including HQ at Hauppauge, NY and 3 manufacturing plants at Matamoros, Mexico.

About The Role

The Managing Director is responsible for providing: Leadership for all regional functions; Strategic input into corporate goals; Setting and achieving regional initiatives and objectives aligned with corporate goals; and Developing regional organizations to support growth targets and achieve operational excellence.

All regional functions, including Finance, HR, IT, Sales/Marketing, Engineering, Operations and Quality, report both to the Managing Director of that region and the gGlobal VP of the respective function. In general, Global Functional VPs provide strategic direction within their department, while site and regional MD’s provide tactical direction.

The Managing Director is a member of the corporate leadership team (LEAD), and as such, contributes to setting strategic direction and goals, and participates in prioritizing annual and multi-year initiatives. Managing Directors and Global Functional VPs are jointly accountable for the successful execution of corporate initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Own P&L for the region, including all products and product lines
  • Will participate as part of the executive leadership team to develop multi-year and annual corporate strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Develop regional strategic goals and initiatives that align with corporate directions.
  • Develop regional/site strategic goals and initiatives in collaboration with Global Functional VPs for all functional groups within that region and/or site.
  • Partner with other regional leaders and Global Functional VPs to develop regional capacity, capabilities, and processes to support regional and corporate long-term strategic goals and optimize corporate flexibility, resilience, and responsiveness.
  • Ensure full understanding of the strategic direction of the company within the region.
  • Continuously improve the effectiveness of all business processes to achieve operational excellence.
  • Act proactively to support anticipated growth across market segments and geographies.
  • Optimize the use of financial analytic tools to prioritize initiatives, mitigate risk, support sustainable growth, and achieve both short-term and long-term financial objectives.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of new processes, technologies, and systems to achieve operational excellence.
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets, metrics, and KPIs to improve performance and implement countermeasures as required, while fostering similar skills and the use of SMART goals throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with corporate Supply Chain Management to strengthen relationships and communication with vendors, demand planning, shop floor planning and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with corporate HR to develop and execute long-term corporate workforce planning including: branding as a preferred employer, recruitment, talent development, career pathing, succession planning, etc.
  • Collaborate with corporate engineering and operations to ensure effective release and transfer of new products.

What You Need

  • Exceptional personal integrity, emotional intelligence, and maturity.
  • Degree(s) in Engineering, Business, Technical Management or related fields. MBA preferred.
  • 15 years of work experience in electronics or related industries (advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, etc.).
  • 10+ years experience in a leadership position in a B2B, technical engineering and production environment.
  • Demonstrated competence managing or establishing effective new product introduction (NPI) and life cycle management (LCM) processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish a continuous improvement culture including Lean manufacturing, preventive and predictive maintenance, quality management systems, process and work instruction documentation.
  • Strong active listening and communication, project management, and change management skills.
  • Ability to partner with customers to address concerns, uncover opportunities, and find win/win solutions.
  • Ability to build a team, develop talent, delegate effectively, and ask for help.
  • Creativity, curiosity, and adaptability to, a constantly changing environment.
  • Deep understanding of and commitment to Operational Excellence.

Preferred Characteristics:

  • Certifications and/or formal training in LEAN, Six Sigma, Materials Management and Project Management.
  • Advanced electro-mechanical training and experience as a leader in an electrical assembly and test design and manufacturing environment.
  • Experience implementing, upgrading, and using ERP systems.
  • Business-level English and Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.

Our good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $275,000 - $350,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.

This position requires regular on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, NY and Matamoros, Mexico. Candidates may reside at either location, and should expect regular travel. Relocation assistance is available.
