As An Electronics Technician (Broadcasting), You Will

  • Be responsible for developing, testing, and performing technical work on both analog and digital television and video production equipment by applying practical knowledge of electronic theory and circuit design and a full understanding of the operating characteristics of the equipment and systems
  • Engineer audio, video, and satellite systems to include digital signal transmission; reception, recording, electronic editing, mastering and duplication operations; systems design, integration and operating criteria; webcasting and video encoding; captioning encoding and decoding systems; and equipment standards for television studios, editing suites, recording booths, laboratories, classrooms, and conference rooms
  • Prepare long-range design, installation, maintenance, and test plans for equipment and facilities to meet planned and unplanned changes to HUD mission functions and support programs. Identify HUD needs, support requirements, and problems related to communications equipment. Provide comprehensive analysis of communications programs, operations, logistics, engineering support, and other activities regarding their effectiveness, economy, results, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and maintain current all drawings and blueprints showing equipment locations, cable routes, cable connections, and signal distribution systems using computer-aided drafting systems (CAD). Analyze and diagnose faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment.

The official duty station for this position will be in Washington, District of Columbia. Failure to report to duty at this location may be grounds for a disciplinary action, including removal.

  • Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.

Skills

Specialized experience for the GS-13 is one year of experience at the GS-12 level or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience is defined as:

  • Ensuring deliverable products are consistent with engineering specifications and customer requirements; AND
  • Providing real-time troubleshooting and technical assistance to senior executives on a variety of matters involving broadcasting and electronic systems.

Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service . One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
