Job Summary
Marymount seeks to build a pool of persons qualified to be Lead Doctoral Faculty Mentors in the EdD program. Qualified applicants will be contacted when a mentorship need arises.
The Lead Doctoral Faculty Mentor (LDFM) supports doctoral students/candidates as they complete their Dissertation in Practice (DiP) for the EdD program. The LDFM assumes responsibility for providing the doctoral student with constructive feedback on performance related to DiP content and process. The LDFM ensures that the doctoral student/candidate designs and executes a quality and defensible applied research dissertation. In addition to mentoring and advising assigned mentees, the LDFM adopts the role as the Dissertation Chair.
The LDFM role is a stipend position with a two-year obligation. The LDFM is responsible for mentoring the student over a total of 5 semesters through their final two years of the program, culminating in semester 8 with their DiP presentations. The LDFM will be responsible for submitting administrative forms and paperwork in a timely manner to document student progress throughout the semesters, meeting with their mentee(s) regularly, and supporting their mentees through the IRB application and submission.

Major Duties And Responsibilities
Coach the doctoral student in identifying a manageable research topic and problem of practice
Regularly attend semester training sessions and utilize Canvas resources in order to provide aligned guidance and feedback to doctoral students
Guide the student in researching and drafting a relevant and comprehensive literature review
Advise the student as they identify and develop an appropriate dissertation timeline, research design, and methodology
Provide support and oversight to the student in the submission of their IRB application; provide faculty mentor approval in order to submit to the board
Meet virtually with the student a minimum of 3-4 times each semester
Provide timely feedback on respective chapter drafts and monitor progress
Recommend resources to support doctoral candidates with writing, research, and analysis, as needed
Communicate and liaise with Education faculty and additional committee member(s) to assist in scheduling the dissertation presentations
Submit administrative forms when assigned to formally document student progression in the program.
Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in related field
Established publication and presentation record
Research and academic writing skills and familiarity with APA
Strong data analysis skills (qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed methods)
Excellent communication, planning, and organization skills
Effective mentorship and coaching skills, including the ability to provide constructive feedback
Attention to detail and ability to meet administrative deadlines
Access, navigate and use Canvas, marymount email, and associated training materials regularly
