Summer Olympics 🤝 female athletes https://lnkd.in/efFMGWcT Women were not allowed to compete at the Olympic Games until the 1900 Paris Olympics. Now, 124 years later, female athletes will make history in the same city at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Reflecting over a century of progress, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has allocated its approximately 10,500-athlete quota spaces equally among men and women for the 2024 Paris Olympics. This milestone marks the first time in history an equal number of men and women will compete at the Olympics.

I asked my fellow journalists at USA TODAY what it’s like to cover history in the making at the Republican National Convention (and how much sleep they think they’ll get this week). #RNC2024 #journalism

In the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Saturday, the criticism of the Republican presidential candidate’s record has been muffled. President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign pulled broadcast advertisements against his opponent on Saturday and hadn’t resumed them as of Tuesday. But this is "not the time to walk on eggshells" around Trump’s record, said Adam Green, co-founder, Progressive Change Campaign Committee, an influential progressive group. As the Republican convention gets underway, it’s time for Democratic ads and robust campaigning to re-start, say progressive Democratic groups and Never-Trumpers. “We’re on the clock and we are behind,” said Green. “Democrats must get back to reminding voters that Trump fostered a violent insurrection, took away women’s freedoms, gave tax cuts to billionaires while trying to slash Social Security, and allowed corporations to price gouge consumers on everything from groceries to prescriptions.” USA TODAY https://lnkd.in/emHgTCV7

America’s home equity has doubled in seven years. Homes are the nation’s piggy bank. And they are worth a collective $32.8 trillion, as of early 2024, according to federal data. That’s up from $15.6 trillion in the first quarter of 2017. The figure represents the nation’s collective home equity: How much all the homes are worth, minus mortgage debt. And it stands at a record high. “Homeowners, they have really been the winners in the current economy,” said Dr. Jessica Lautz, vice president of research at the National Association of REALTORS®. As an asset, the American home has had a remarkable run. Since early 2012, when the economy was recovering from the Great Recession, home equity has quadrupled in value, from a low of $8.2 trillion. Equity soared, economists say, because of rising home values and low mortgage rates. Another factor is rising tenure: People are staying in their homes longer. Some homeowners even feel trapped in them. Here's the full report, featuring Mark Hamrick of Bankrate, Tobias Peter at American Enterprise Institute, Kyle Moore of Economic Policy Institute, Jackie Frommer (Naturman) of Figure and Selma Hepp, PhD of CoreLogic.

The Federal Trade Commission is planning to sue the country's three largest pharmacy benefit managers, including CVS Caremark and Optum, over drug prices, including insulin. According to an interim report, the FTC says PBMs profit at the expense of patients and independent stores by chasing higher-priced drugs for larger rebates while directing patients to their own affiliated pharmacies. The long-awaited annual sales event, Amazon Prime Day, has officially landed. Taking place today and tomorrow, Reviewed's deal hunters are already seeing deep discounts on popular, expert-approved products across tech, beauty, kitchen, and more. “It’s not just big ticket items on sale. Prime Day is a great time of the year to just buy little everyday things that you’re going to buy anyway. There are sales on things like Crest Whitestrips, Tide To Go Sticks, K-cups for your Keurig coffee maker, things like that. A word of caution, though: For all the great sales, there are also a lot of not-so-great products on sale. That’s why my best piece of advice is to visit a site like Reviewed, part of the USA TODAY Network, where you’ll get recommendations, reviews, and vetted lists of the best products. From there, you can jump over to Amazon and buy it while the price is low,” says Reviewed GM & Editor in Chief David Kender. #AmazonPrimeDay #PrimeDay #AmazonPrime #Shopping

The nation's top business leaders publicly expressed support for former President Donald Trump who survived an assassination attempt and condemned political violence. Here's what some of them said: - Apple CEO Tim Cook: "I pray for President Trump's rapid recovery." - Walmart CEO Doug McMillon: "We’re heartbroken for the victims and their families." - Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon: "We cannot afford division and distrust to get the better of us.” - Tesla CEO Elon Musk: "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery." But CEOs are still staying out of the November presidential election. Why? I talked with Jeff Sonnenfeld, David Primo and Paul Argenti.
