SeaTrees protects and restores coastal ecosystems globally, to protect ocean health and fight climate change.
About us
SeaTrees directly supports communities and scientists who protect and regenerate blue-carbon coastal ecosystems. Blue carbon is the most effective way to draw carbon out of the atmosphere and permanently sequester it. SeaTrees works with communities around the world to plant and protect mangrove and kelp forests, seagrass, ridge-to-reef watersheds, and coral reefs. Our projects do a lot more than sequester carbon. We measure our impact with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The regeneration and protection of these ecosystems provides critical habitat for countless species, sustainable long-term employment for local communities, and protects those communities from storm surges and sea-level rise. SeaTrees is an ocean-focused platform for people and brands to take direct action on climate change. There are many different ways to support the blue carbon projects on the SeaTrees platform, and then tell that story to others. Our Vision: We believe the ocean has the superpower to reverse climate change, but we need to help by protecting and restoring blue carbon ecosystems. There's no time to waste – the global scientific consensus is clear that we have the next 10 years to reduce our collective carbon footprint. On Earth Day 2021 we announced our first major SeaTrees milestone 1 Million SeaTrees planted. We're working hard to find quality new projects where we can work together to plant the next Million SeaTrees. Longer-term, our goal is to support 100 blue-carbon projects in threatened coastal ecosystems by 2030, in-turn becoming a global leader in developing blue-carbon projects.

How do we face tomorrow? By understanding what happened yesterday 🪸⚡️ Last week, our SeaTrees Projects Director Leah Hays was visiting potential coral reef projects and partners in Jamaica when she received the news that Hurricane Beryl was headed right for her. The extensive loss during this hurricane was an eye-opener, underscoring what scientists predicted a decade ago: climate change would lead to more and more natural disasters like these. This is a stark reminder of the urgent need for climate action. Faced with the choice to accept the loss or strive to reverse it and rebuild, we choose the latter. This is our opportunity to learn from the past to better understand climate change impacts and prepare for the future. Working alongside Scripps Institution of Oceanography to study the effects of climate change on coastal communities and ecosystems, like these coral reefs in Jamaica, we can develop strategies to mitigate damage and enhance resilience. Our efforts aim to protect these communities and create a sustainable future for all. Join us in this journey to learn from yesterday and create a resilient tomorrow.

Did you know we’ve lost the equivalent of over 4 million football fields worth of seagrass? This is why we’ve partnered with the Cleanwave Foundation on their MedGardens project to restore #seagrass meadows in Formentor Bay, Mallorca, Spain. Seagrasses, like other blue carbon ecosystems, are incredibly efficient at sequestering #carbon -up to 2x as much as terrestrial forests. They absorb carbon dioxide from the ocean and atmosphere, storing it in their biomass and soil. Swipe to learn more about Seagrasses this #WetlandWednesday Ready to help us restore the lungs of the ocean? Dive in below: https://lnkd.in/geRhCQnU ~ Special thanks to Silvia López Mus for some of these incredible photos!
