We're proud to be part of this innovative housing project!
Last week marked a monumental event for South Minneapolis with the groundbreaking ceremony for a pioneering housing project. This new development, the vision of Agate Housing and Services with Trellis as the development partner, aims to revolutionize how homelessness is addressed by providing both temporary shelter and permanent housing opportunities. This collaborative effort involves Hennepin County, the Minnesota Public Housing Authority, and the City of Minneapolis. Key representatives, including Jacob Frey, Mayor of Minneapolis, Trellis President Elizabeth Flannery, and Kyle Hanson, Executive Director of Agate Housing and Services, were present to highlight the project's significance. The atmosphere at the ceremony was one of optimism and hope. Mayor Frey emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building a more inclusive and supportive community, while Elizabeth Flannery and Kyle Hanson shared their dedication to realizing this vision. Other notable speakers included MN Housing Commissioner Jennifer Ho, MN Department of Employment and Economic Development Commissioner Matt Varilek, Hennepin County Commissioner David Hewitt, and Abdi Warsame, CEO of Minneapolis Public Housing Authority. This innovative community will include a range of amenities and services designed to support residents in their journey toward stability, such as on-site case management, health and wellness services, and community-building activities. As construction begins, the excitement within South Minneapolis is palpable, with the project symbolizing a beacon of hope and a model for other cities tackling homelessness. The success of this initiative demonstrates the power of collaborative efforts and innovative thinking in addressing one of society's most pressing issues. The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a transformative journey for South Minneapolis. With the combined efforts of Agate Housing and Services, Trellis, and key financing partners, this new housing community is a testament to what can be achieved through partnership, vision, and unwavering commitment to making a difference. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as it progresses.

This morning we celebrated the groundbreaking of Wadaag Commons, an affordable housing project designed with East African families in mind. This will be the sixth installment in the Seward Commons development in Minneapolis and has been several years in the making. In Somali, Wadaag means "sharing" or "community."
