  • Driving positive change while pursuing returns—this is what successful sustainable finance looks like. We applaud Council for Inclusive Capitalism member Temasek's S$44 billion (US$32.6 billion) sustainable living investment portfolio, unveiled in their inaugural sustainability report. This investment underscores Temasek's commitment to net zero by 2050. Key highlights: - S$38 billion in sustainability-focused investments - S$6 billion supporting climate transitions - Investments spanning clean energy, sustainable transportation, and innovative agri-tech - 5% reduction in net carbon emissions since 2010 - Strategic partnerships to advance renewable energy projects Rohit Sipahimalani, Chief Investment Officer, stated, "Our exposure to the Sustainable Living Trend is steadily growing as we see more innovation and significant opportunities in this space. There is no doubt that if we don't invest in businesses that are aligned with sustainability principles, it is going to be very difficult to sustain returns because there are no long-term trade-offs between the two." We can all gain insights from Temasek's transparency and strategic approach to sustainability. • 90% of companies are missing the mark on social responsibility – posing risks to business and society. The World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) has released its first Social Benchmark, assessing 2,000 of the world's most influential companies on their social responsibility. Key insights from the WBA report: ❌ 90% of assessed companies are not even halfway to meeting fundamental societal expectations on human rights, decent work, and ethical conduct. ❌ Only 4% of companies commit to or currently pay their employees a living wage. ❌ Just 9% of companies engage with affected stakeholders to improve human rights and decent work practices. These alarming statistics highlight the critical importance of the Taskforce on Inequality and Social-related Financial Disclosures (TISFD) mission to develop a global framework for inequality and social-related disclosures. By working together, we can reduce social risks and create a more inclusive economy. Don't miss this opportunity to be part of the solution. We urge our community of leaders to: ❇ Review the WBA's Social Benchmark report here: https://lnkd.in/dypbMAn4 💻 Join the TISFD Introduction Sessions on July 10: 8:30-10:00am CEST / 2:30-4:00pm SGT [Register: https://lnkd.in/eNbUDyHm] 11:00am-12:30pm EDT / 5:00-6:30pm CEST [Register: https://lnkd.in/e7CgKnMx] #InclusiveCapitalism #TISFD #SocialResponsibility #Inequality #WBA #SocialBenchmark2024 #bizhumanrights #WhenCompaniesValuePeople #LeaveNoOneBehind #SDGs #corporateaccountability

  • On Juneteenth, we commemorate the end of slavery and honor the resilience of generations who fought for freedom. However, true equity remains an ongoing journey that demands sustained effort across all sectors, including business. At the Council for Inclusive Capitalism, we stand alongside the Black community and all those facing systemic barriers. We are committed to fostering an economic system that empowers underrepresented groups and creates equitable opportunities. This Juneteenth, we highlight the "CEO Blueprint for Racial Equity," a resource by Council member PolicyLink. This vital resource guides businesses to address impacts on people of color and low-income communities across three domains: 1️⃣ Within the Company: This goes beyond just diversity and inclusion initiatives. It covers things like embedding racial equity accountability into policies, compensation, governance, conducting racial equity audits, redesigning products/services to center equitable outcomes, and operating an antiracist supply chain. 2️⃣ Within the Community: This involves authentically building trust and relationships with local communities, redesigning corporate philanthropy to address root causes of inequity, advocating for local policies that improve outcomes for communities of color, and ensuring environmental justice. 3️⃣ Within Society: This includes advocacy for national public policies that advance racial equity, making investments to promote equity, using corporate voice and communications to drive change, and joining cross-sector coalitions. Today let us celebrate the progress made while recommitting to dismantle systemic barriers. • What if every employee could directly share in the wealth creation they help drive? This transformative idea fuels Ownership Works, a nonprofit pioneering ethical leadership through broad-based employee stock ownership, as recently profiled on CBS’s 60 Minutes. Led by Council for Inclusive Capitalism member Peter Stavros, Ownership Works is restructuring businesses to integrate shared ownership, proving that a more equitable approach to capitalism is not only possible but beneficial for all. In the TED Talk shared below, Peter Stavros shares personal stories of his own journey, the profound impact of doing this work, and how business leaders can restructure their companies through this transformative model. Through ethical leadership, Stavros is helping companies realize the core promise of stakeholder capitalism—aligning employee, business, and societal interests rather than pitting them against each other. https://lnkd.in/d9SHikbn
