Research is at heart of what we do, by better understanding the function of the CHAMP1 gene and protein we can begin to better support our CHAMPS and develop treatments for those with CHAMP1 disorders.
To help us focus our efforts we have established a scientific advisory board made up of experts in multiple fields based all over the world.
They generously give their time and expertise to help shape a better future for those affected by CHAMP1.
There are multiple institutes around the world working towards this goal, one of these being the Medical University of South Carolina, where Berto Lab which is run by Dr Stefano Berto is dedicated to CHAMP1 research.
After attending the 2022 CHAMP1 conference Stefano began focusing his research on CHAMP1 and had this to say:
“This was my first experience with parents and their children affected by a neurodevelopmental disorder. It changed me. These parents are my new superheroes.
They don’t stop smiling even after the daily struggle to live with, support, and take care of children with a neurodevelopmental disorder.
As a scientist, I’ll do my best to help them. My lab is dedicated to this disorder, for these families, for their CHAMP1ONS. So much love in 3 days, So many tears.”
