My thoughts and takeaways: 👉🏻 Investors want to back Applied AI companies only e.g. a clear commercial use case, not science projects. 👉🏻 Now that we’re over the transformative shock of Chat GPT, we need to actually starting to use ‘AI’ effectively to stay ahead of the curve. 👉🏻 Even though AI feels like it’s already here, it’s only just the beginning. 👉🏻 Not using AI to do your job is akin to using a typewriter and homing pigeon instead of WhatsApp. 👉🏻 AI can’t take your job if you make using AI your job. 👉🏻 The market for synthetic (artificially generated using algorithms and statistical models) data generation is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 36% through 2031 to land at $2.5B. 👉🏻 Synthetic data has a variety of applications such as machine learning, product testing, and market research. 👉🏻 Gartner predicts that 75% of businesses will be using generative AI to create synthetic data by 2026. 👉🏻 KPMG reports that 63% of people are concerned that generative AI could potentially expose their personal data via breaches or other unauthorized access. 👉🏻 What would you add? Exciting breakthroughs in gene therapy! 🌟 Katie Binley, Chief Science Officer at our portfolio company, Ikarovec, presented groundbreaking data at BSGCT British Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (BSGCT) in Oxford on their dual payload gene therapy, IKC159V, for treating geographic atrophy. The unique design of Ikarovec’s delivery vector genetically modifies the retina to create a ‘factory of cells’ that secrete two clinically relevant therapeutic proteins. Ikarovec's innovative approach offers superior efficacy over existing treatments, paving the way for new possibilities in eye disease management. Dr Binley said; “I’m proud of the work the team has generated in which we have robustly evaluated Ikarovec’s gene therapy in challenging preclinical models and demonstrated its superiority.
