⭐ Grammar Challenge (Special Edition) ⭐ Good morning, writing nerds! 🤓 Ready to flex your skills? I got a special treat for ya! This isn’t your run-of-the-mill grammar drill. Watch our in-house writing guru, Tom Bromley, discuss how active and specific verbs make your writing pop during one of our live editing session 👇 📄 Then, show us those editing muscles and refine the text below. Let’s see what you’ve got! 💪 🧠 " It was a gloomy morning as Jane made her way to school. Avoiding the puddles left over from last night’s downpour, she walked quickly along the residential street, conscious that Mrs. Marsden would scold her if she arrived late one more time. Thinking of the teacher’s infamous temper, she grabbed the straps of her backpack more tightly, lowered her head, and sped up, approaching the big intersection where, last year, a terrible accident had occurred. Though the light was turning from yellow to red, she hurriedly looked in both directions and, seeing no cars, stepped into the road. Then, out of nowhere, she heard the sound of a car honking loudly. Looking to her left, she had no time to react before someone pulled her back onto the sidewalk, narrowly avoiding the speeding vehicle." 📚 Watch Tom's full live editing session - https://lnkd.in/gMbABa3c ✍ Want to sign up for Tom's novel writing course? That’s why the answer is........ .......C! On average, we accept around 3% of applicants to our marketplace. So, how do you get approved to be a freelancer on Reedsy? It starts with a strong Reedsy profile and one of the most important parts of that is your portfolio. Here are some tips to curate your Reedsy portfolio effectively: 📚 Consistency and specialization: Select book titles that align with your profile and genre tags, indicating the projects you have worked on and want to continue working on. ✨ Quality over quantity: Choose a handful of recent and relevant examples, ideally two to three books per genre, to showcase your abilities. 🌟 Showcase versatility: Avoid multiple titles by the same author to prevent clutter and display your versatility. 🔄 Keep it updated: Regularly update your portfolio with your most impressive work at the top. The first three books in your portfolio will appear in marketplace searches. 🎯 Be selective: Only include titles you want to work on again, highlighting the types of projects you want to attract. 🏷️ Tag services: Indicate the services performed for each book and mention if it was done on Reedsy. 🔍 Check out some more tips on optimizing your profile! https://lnkd.in/gYh2BAQk 📝 Think you’ve got the chops? 🎤 In case you missed it, the hip-hop world just witnessed one of the most legendary rap beefs since Notorious B.I.G. vs. Tupac, with Kendrick Lamar and Drake throwing it down on the mic this time! Personally, we’re team Kendrick, but we won't ask you to pick sides. 😉 Speaking of rivalries, did you know the literary world also has its fair share of infamous feuds? 🤯 📖 🕯 Aldous Huxley and George Orwell had a legendary rivalry over their dystopian visions. Orwell suggested that Brave New World borrowed heavily from We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. By today’s standards, it’s hardly a mic-drop, but back then it was like calling out a rapper for using a ghostwriter. Huxley denied this, saying he had not read We before writing his book. 👀 In response, after the publication of 1984, Huxley wrote to Orwell praising his work but argued that his own dystopian vision in Brave New World was more likely to occur. The feud never officially ended, but we will settle this one today. Pick your winner below! 🥊 💬 Which dystopian future is more compelling? Do you know any other famous literary feuds? #LiteraryFeuds #1984vsBraveNewWorld #DystopianFiction #DystopianNovel #FictionFacts #Writer #WriterFunFact #AuthorFacts #KendrickvDrake
