South Asian Heritage Month is celebrated from 18th July to 17th August and this year’s theme is ‘Free to Be Me’. We've gathered some of Bloomsbury's best South Asian authors and books to celebrate all sorts of stories. These include Kamila Shamsie, tantalising recipes by Ravinder Bhogal and Kavita Puri's accounts of untold stories from the days of partition. South Asian Heritage Month was founded in 2020, and allows us to understand the diversity of South Asian heritages, communities and cultures that link the UK to South Asia. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/epCC5BpR #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #RecommendedReading #WeAreBloomsbury

We were delighted to be joined by the winners of our Belonging on Stage student scene-writing competition at the Pearson Lit in Colour Student Conference on 10 July. We are proud partners of Lit in Colour alongside Penguin Random House UK and Runnymede Trust. During the conference, judges Sudha Bhuchar and Lucian Msamati gave a motivational keynote talk to over 400 students and their teachers on the power of drama and performance as a way of seeing yourself reflected in stories on and off the stage. They then awarded the three Belonging on Stage winners with trophies and welcomed two of them on stage to perform. Brilliant children's author Smriti Halls joined Tash Payne and Ginni Arnold in the borough of Camden last week to visit 7 local schools with a focus on increasing literacy - part of the team's LitUp outreach project. Smriti spoke to over 500 children about the importance of stories, what it's like to be an author (and why anyone can become one), plus how she always wanted to see better representation of diverse experiences in books - and now she's making it happen!
