More investors are pushing for sustainable impact – growing their capital while positively influencing the planet. “We have certainly seen a growing desire among investors to contribute to positive social and environmental outcomes,” says Luke Spencer-Wilson, HYCAP COO. “As a result, private equity funds specialising in clean energy are seeing substantial growth. This growth is driven by several factors, including policy support, technological advancements, corporate commitments to sustainability, and rising investor demand for green investments. “Governments worldwide are implementing policies to support clean energy development, such as subsidies, tax incentives, and renewable energy mandates. Technological advancements in clean energy reduce costs and increase efficiency, making these investments more attractive. Additionally, large corporations are committing to sustainability goals, increasing demand for renewable energy solutions. Hydrogen Equity Partners UK Limited (HEP), part of the HYCAP Group, is an example of the role of private equity in the clean energy transition. Founded in 2021, HEP invests in private companies within the renewable energy ecosystem, including solar, wind, and energy storage projects. This strategy includes early-stage investments, operational improvements, and strategic partnerships. A notable portfolio company is Yamna , whose large-scale green ammonia initiative involves substantial renewable energy and battery storage capacity. And HYCAP has underlined its investment commitment across the net zero value chain, also investing in Wrightbus , which manufactures EV and hydrogen fuel cell buses; Ryze Hydrogen, which transports and distributes renewable energy; Hygen Energy, a hydrogen production facility; Liquid Wind, a green electrofuel development company, and Zeti , an award-winning innovator in fintech for clean transport adoption. #sustainable #investment #returns #netzero #HCYAP

Insights from HYCAP Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales on the launch of new business NewPower UK which aims to speed up the decarbonisation process for buses, by eradicating diesel powertrains in older fleets, replacing them with battery electric technology, at a substantially lower price than a new bus.
Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales spoke to Will Reeves, Commercial Vehicle & Bus and Coach Section Manager - Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) last week on the incredible opportunities available to operators across the UK to speed up the decarbonisation of their fleets with NewPower UK. NewPower aims to speed up the decarbonisation process by eradicating diesel powertrains in older fleets, replacing them with battery electric technology, at a substantially lower price than a new bus. This is another world-first for Wrightbus, and it is our hope that operators with mid-life bus fleets but without the funding for new zero emission buses can take advantage of the instant sustainability switch. #Wrightbus #DrivingAGreenerFuture #NewPower #RepoweringPublicTransport #Decarbonisation

Congratulations to HYCAP portfolio company Wrightbus on the launch of their exceptional new venture NewPower UK. New Power will ebnable the decarbonisation of buses not yet ready to be replaced, using Wrightbus' market-leading engineering talent to replace their diesel engines with new zero-emission electric powertrains. This is a cost-effective and hugely efficient solution for mid-life buses. Waste not, want not. #decarbonisation #transport #netzero #Wrightbus
Introducing NewPower UK a brand new high tech re-powering facility from the Wrightbus team, in Bicester. Our brand new site has been officially opened by Jo Bamford and his family, wife Alex Gore Browne and children Tilly and Teddy, alongside Wrightbus CEO Jean-Marc Gales in a 2 day event attended by UK press and customers. We aim to speed up the decarbonisation process by eradicating diesel powertrains in older fleets at a substantially lower price than a new bus, utilising the unique skills of the Wrightbus workforce to swap diesel for electricity. Its master technicians built the original buses and have unrivalled expertise in being able to swap powertrains. Jean-Marc Gales, Wrightbus CEO shared, “While we are selling new hydrogen and battery-electric buses all over the world there is a huge market of mid-life buses which, once converted, can have an immediate impact on helping to improve air quality in towns and cities up and down the UK. We have long been recognised as the world-leading manufacturer of both hydrogen and battery-electric buses and now NewPower will add another string to our bow.” The #NewPower team are delighted to begin this new journey with Wrightbus and operators across the UK and are thrilled to have already created 22 new jobs in the local Bicester area, including senior hires from across the automotive world and a further 38 skilled green jobs will be created at NewPower until the end of 2024. Data to be proud of from one of our portfolio companies, Wrightbus, whose zero-emission buses are contributing to #NetZero along with boosting the wider economy. #DrivingaGreenerFuture #Wrightbus #HYCAP #netzero #greeneconomy
Wrightbus has contributed more than £1.5 billion to the UK economy thanks to support for home-grown suppliers and UK workforce. Sourcing supplies from 47 counties across the United Kingdom has generated millions of pounds in revenue for businesses producing everything from heating systems and powertrains to laser cutting and fabrication. “Every pound generated by Wrightbus creates another £3 in the wider economy and every job here ensures another three jobs are safe across the supply chain. The knock-on effect is tremendous and really proves the impact of buying British at every level. When operators buy a Wrightbus they’re not just buying a class-leading product or our first-class expertise, they’re buying something that supports the whole of the UK.” Jean-Marc Gales, Wrightbus CEO. One of those businesses is McKenna Brothers, a family business in Manchester supplying LED destinations, vehicle graphics and next stop announcements, with all the software that goes with it. “Our revenues for the first two months of this year are already ahead of where we were for the whole of 2023,” said Sales Director John Hartley. “A strong public transport sector has a huge impact down the supply chain. If the industry does well, we all do well. Ian Paisley, the Democratic Unionist Party MP for North Antrim, where our main factory is located, added his support to the success story. "Wrightbus has not only generated new, well-paid, highly-skilled jobs for the people of Ballymena but shown the rest of the world the way forward in zero-emissions transport.” Read more on this story from Jean-Marc Gales, John Hartley and Ian Paisley MP: https://lnkd.in/eWTzMYRn #Wrightbus #DrvingAGreenerFuture #UKSupplyChain #UKEconomy #UKManufacturing
