#LeonardoAutomation is pleased to announce that it has recently obtained the certification for the supply of Baggage Handling System (#MBHS) in China, issued by the Zhongli Vehicle Inspection Engineering Research Certification Body. The certification was carried out after a careful analysis of the components of the Baggage Handling System and a visit by the certifying body in Italy. Leonardo has been reached by the sad news reporting that today an M-346 “Bielik” aircraft of Polish Air Force crashed in Poland, in the area of Gdynia-Babie Doly Airport (QYD/EPOK). The Polish Military Authorities confirmed the loss of the pilot. Leonardo expresses its most heartfelt condolences to the Family of the pilot and to the Polish Air Force. Leonardo stands ready to provide any necessary support to the relevant authorities, should an assistance be requested in the ongoing investigation activities.

The International Flight Training School (#IFTS), located at the Italian Air Force base in #Decimomannu (Cagliari, Italy), is the result of a strategic partnership between Leonardo and the Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare), aimed at the establishment of an advanced flight training centre for military pilots from the world's air forces. Within it, an international team of instructor pilots and technical personnel operates, training students on phase 4 "Lead-In to Fighter Training - LIFT", the most advanced part of the #training syllabus, preparing the way for subsequent deployment on fighter #aircraft.   During a visit to the campus, content creators Tudor Laurini, aka Klaus, and Salvatore Cinquegrana, aka Surry, had the opportunity to experience the principal technologies that make the IFTS's activities possible. Guided step-by-step by instructors and specialised personnel, they tested first-hand the different types of simulators. In Decimomannu, indeed, ground and in-flight training are closely combined: the real and the virtual come together in a unique simulation environment with a shared training scenario. It is a tactical type of training that involves trainees on the ground and pilots in the air on board the #M346s, with the supervision of an instructor who defines the degree of complexity by integrating disruptive elements.   Discover more: https://lnkd.in/d8yzJ9z9

Great ending to the NATO Summit week in Washington DC. Today it was an honour to attend the NIAF event where General Christopher G. Cavoli, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, was awarded with the LaGuardia medal. This was a celebration of the Italian-American excellence and cooperation in the Defence sector. We were delighted by the presence of the Hon. Guido Crosetto, Italian Minister of Defence and the Hon. Antonio Tajani, Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs. I also had the pleasure to see former colleagues and friends.

The NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum was held in Washington, DC, from 8-10 July at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, bringing together industry representatives with government stakeholders. The event, which saw the participation of #Leonardo's Co-General Manager Lorenzo Mariani, took place in conjunction with the Summit for the 75th anniversary of the Atlantic Alliance. The Forum was composed by a series of panels focusing on current industry issues, followed by a plenary session, which featured NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, and U.S. Deputy Secretary for Defense Kathleen Hicks. During the panel on Strengthening Cyber Defense, Lorenzo Mariani explained the importance of a targeted Zero Trust approach - a model for IT systems’ design and implementation, based on “never trust and always verify” – with particular reference to the supply chain. He also pointed out the strong emphasis that must be given to transatlantic collaboration, through an increased sharing of requirements and technologies. This is a framework in which the need for a shared process emerges, fostering the rapid integration of disruptive technologies into deployed systems, also with reference to the contribution of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Following the event, Mariani emphasized how the Forum represents “an important opportunity to exchange ideas and proposals for accelerating the operational availability of solutions that enable true cyber resilience of the systems deployed by the Alliance countries, encouraging technological development and industry involvement.” According to Mariani, “Italy has a strong drive for innovation and a recent history of growth in the cyber domain. With its solutions in Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Zero Trust Identification, and Multi-Domain Security, Leonardo will play a fundamental role in this market, also through targeted mergers and acquisitions operations and with the full involvement of SMEs in the sector.” https://lnkd.in/djqgCnsR

It is a great honor to be rewarded by IEEE IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) in the annual 2024 worlwide conference in #athens. The conference, the leading meeting of more than 2500 scientists and professionals in the Remote Sensing field, this year has key topic "acting for sustainability and resilience". A guideline for all the scientific panels and events to stimulate enlightening debates for opening science and innovation, towards the creation of solutions for the benefit of societies. I cannot imagine a better occasion to be rewarded with master of ceremony Alberto Moreira German Aerospace Center (DLR) by IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) President Mariko Burgin the 2024 #IEEE #GRSS Society Industry Leader Award for exceptional leadership in the Earth observation and geospatial industry. I had over the years the honor to work with and to lead worldwide first in class enterprises all over the value chain of geospatial domain Thales Alenia Space Telespazio e-GEOS #GAF EarthLab Luxembourg S.A. and I had the privilege to show abroad the impact of geospatial science in the construction of a sustainable future for the Earth. I cannot receive this recognition without the hard work of hundreds of engineers in many countries did to build and to operate amazing space based sensors and radars, to conceive and make possible leading edge services and applications and to research and develop innovative solutions from chips to algorithms. I sincerely thank all of them as well as the shareholders Thales and Leonardo for their trust in the roles I had in this industry over many years.
