[#Laser] On May 6, Thales and Peking University signed the commissioning of #Thales 2 PW/1Hz laser system installed in the Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center in Huairou. This system, China's highest peak-power 1 Hz laser at 2 PW will significantly increase the University’s research capacities in the field of particle acceleration and proton therapy for cancer treatment. Thanks to excellent collaboration between Thales laser experts in France, engineers of Thales China and PKU teams, Thales ensured the on-time shipment of this complex large-scale device, its installation and commissioning. The system is now ready for the full operation of research projects. [#Laser] Recently teams of #LULI - laboratoire pour l'utilisation des lasers intenses and #Thales have carried out successfully the final tests of the new front end of the multipetawatt system part of #APOLLON, a large research infrastructure project led by CNRS - Centre national de la recherche scientifique and l'École Polytechnique and located in France on Plateau de #Saclay. Thales has provided this front end integrating its best technologies to date, in particular in terms of temporal contrast and spectral width of the laser pulses , ensuring in the same time a high level of performance combined to excellent stability and reliability verified on a daily basis. These features will enable the most demanding requirements for applications such as high energy protons acceleration and will confirm the prominent role of Apollon in the worldwide landscape of ultra high intensity laser infrastructures able therefore to attract the best French and international researchers to do their experiments. Thales is proud to increase its contribution to this flagship project, after having delivered some years ago several high energy ATLAS pump lasers which are used to pump the main amplifier and contribute to deliver currently a peak power of 4 petawatts. This is another landmark of the collaboration between CNRS and Thales over decades on intense lasers which has been reinforced through the creation in 2021 of HERACLES3 joint research laboratory between #CNRS, l'#EcolePolytechnique, l'ENSTA Paris and Thales. #science #innovation #future #particleacceleration #laserplasma #intenselaser

[#Laser] Beyond peak power, the energy / frequency ratio is an essential criterion for PW/ TW class femtosecond lasers. With low repetition rate TW/PW class high power lasers, particle flux is not enough to accelerate and generate intense flows of particles and radiation that are required for a various field of future societal applications. To overcome this, #Thales laser team have developed a state-of-the art 100 Hz Joule class TiSa laser.
