In a remarkable feat of engineering prowess, the tunnel boring machine known as the “Celtic Tiger” reached a significant breakthrough in its ambitious underground journey this past spring. This colossal machine, named for its immense power and relentless power, reached the exit shaft and completed the end of the mining phase. The new tunnel runs 85ft below ground in downtown Toronto and will house new transmission cables, replacing cables that have served Toronto's downtown core since the 1950s. This investment will help us continue to provide clean and reliable energy to some of Toronto’s most critical institutions, including Hospital Row, City Hall and the Financial District. Our teams worked closely with the City of Toronto and Toronto Hydro to coordinate construction needs and the use of a tunnel boring machine. Installation of new cables is expected to be completed by 2026. To learn more about the project and see a map of the tunnel route, visit: https://ow.ly/tMiy50SBqEp

Supporting Mental Health with a cup of kindness. Our teammates baked delicious treats to raise funds for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), a global leader in mental health research and treatment. This heartwarming initiative is part of Hydro One's employee giving program, Power to Give – an annual program where employees raise funds through local events, payroll donations, and by volunteering their time to the causes close to our employees' hearts. 100% of proceeds raised from this bake sale go directly to CAMH's Sunrise Challenge, helping them create a brighter future for everyone. Supporting diverse voices is essential in fostering understanding and acceptance. Watch the video as members of our PrideOne take us on a trip to Glad Day Bookshop, a local spot and the oldest queer bookstore in the world to explore books and select some of their favourites. Education through literature helps us connect and grow together. Let's continue to champion inclusivity and celebrate all identities. Happy Pride to all. #PrideDay #PrideMonth #local #Ontario

This National Electricity Month, we celebrate more than a century of bringing light and warmth to every corner of Ontario. Our journey to power the province began in 1906 with the creation of the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario. Just four years later, the lights came on in Berlin (now Kitchener), the first town to be connected to Ontario’s grid. Back then, our linemen travelled on horseback to connect remote communities to the grid. By the 1940s, they were using helicopters to reach even more challenging locations. Today, we continue to innovate, harnessing the power of renewable energy and ensuring a brighter, more sustainable future for all. We're proud to be part of your lives, powering your homes, businesses and memories. #NationalElectricityMonth #ReliablePower

The Indigenous Hockey Coaching Grant with Coaches Association of Ontario helps remove barriers and make hockey more affordable and accessible to coaches and young players from Indigenous communities. This year, 51 recipients from 34 Indigenous communities across Ontario received up to $1,500 in funding to help increase Indigenous representation in sports leadership roles. The Grant builds on our existing partnership with Coaches Association of Ontario and the Little Native Hockey League (Little NHL) tournament, which has been bringing Indigenous athletes together for close to half a century. "Hydro One is proud to help champion more opportunities for Indigenous coaches to share the power of sport through inclusion and accessibility. We look forward to seeing the incredible work they do for their players and teams as they continue to make the sport safe, accessible and fun." ~ Penny Favel, vice president, Indigenous Relations & Sustainability, Hydro One. “Through our industry leading equity partnership with nine First Nations, there was an interest in engaging a more localized firm that had a greater understanding of the region’s archaeological potential and Indigenous history of the area.” Dayna, environmental planner, Environmental Services. As part of the Waasigan Transmission Line project, our team collaborated with Woodland Northwest to develop an Indigenous technician-training program to enable participation and employment opportunities while further supporting traditional lands the project crosses. Woodland Heritage Northwest worked with our teams to oversee Indigenous engagement and participation in the archaeological assessments, while also ensuring the archaeological vendors we hired are educated about Indigenous perspectives, cultural heritage values, and priorities. With our support, Woodland Heritage Northwest developed a five-day course in partnership with the Archaeological Society of Ontario and Lakehead University for Indigenous community members to learn more about archaeology. The course gives credentials to budding archaeology field technicians. Some participants have been hired by the consultant firms to work on the Waasigan project, with more expected this year. At Hydro One, we believe that respecting the past and the land is essential to creating a brighter future for everyone. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesMonth
