About us

Intrepid Travel offers sustainable experience-rich travel via more than 900 trips on all seven continents. As a certified B Corp, we're a business that balances purpose and profit. We are the largest global adventure tour operator with a network of 27 destination management companies (DMCs) and a not-for-profit foundation. Majority owned by its co-founders and staff, Intrepid has been taking small groups to travel the local way, on real-life experiences for more than three decades. Through our global DMC network, our expert teams operate the majority of our trips, as well as tours on behalf of other leading travel brands. Our not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, has raised over AUD $15.5m for 160 charities around the world since 2002. We've been carbon neutral since 2010, and in 2020 we became the only tour operator with verified science based targets – these are ambitious 2035 emissions reduction targets, in line with a 1.5°C future. The Amazon Rainforest faces significant threats from logging, mining and climate change, but local communities are working hard to preserve the region. Intrepid team members recently had the chance to hear their generational stories of resilience through taking part in the Amazon Canoe Challenge. The event involved 7 days of paddling 300km through the Peruvian Amazon with local community members. It aims to highlight the critical issues impacting the region and to support local conservation efforts. Well done to the Intrepid team, made up of trip leader Herbert and a member of the Machiguenga Indigenous community, Juan. We are proud to support these important efforts to spread awareness and amplify the voices of the local communities driving solutions.

Albania is an emerging destination, quickly growing in popularity as an alternative to traditional summer hotspots. Last year, we hosted travel writer Teresa Machan on our nine-day expedition through the country in partnership with MEET Network to experience how local travel products are protecting vulnerable areas and benefitting conservation as the tourism economy grows. From spending the night on a sustainable farm, where travellers enjoy dinner made from fresh ingredients grown on site and learn about local farming practices, to taking part in a hands-on craft experience with local artists in the village of Babunje, this trip is all about creating positive impact for both travellers and the community Read more about the experience in The Guardian 👇 ✍

A big congratulations to our team in the UK, who took home not one, but TWO well deserved awards for their innovation, influence and impact at last night's Travel Marketing Awards in London. 🎉 The teams have consistently brought to life creative approaches to grow our brand with purpose. This includes our Diversifying Travel Media program, which gives emerging travel writers from underrepresented backgrounds an opportunity to break into the world of travel writing. We look forward to more collaboration with our community and continuing to build on this work, as we aim to be the best travel company for the world ❤️

Highly experienced, generalist marketer & leader excited to be part of the Intrepid Travel journey.

🚨BREAKING NEWS (no, not that). A huge congratulations to the Intrepid Travel marketing team, led by Morwenna Francis here in the UK/EU, scooping the ‘Travel Brand of the Year’ award at The Travel Marketing Awards this evening in London. And this was after being recognised for our Diversifying Travel Media initiative, winning the ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Campaign’, spearheaded by the PR team and Chloe Berman. A very proud moment which is testament to the hard work and commitment across the team. #TTMA2024

Managing Director EMEA, Intrepid Travel | Chair, Association of Touring and Adventure Specialists | Advisory Board member, Women In Travel CIC | Patron Education For All Morocco

What a day! The International Women In Travel CIC and Tourism Forum is always one of my favourite events of the year and I’m proud that Intrepid Travel has supported it from the beginning.     My highlights from today:   Avivah Wittenberg-Cox told us about the rapidly changing demographics of work and home life, the ‘quarters’ of life and why older customers are not a niche; they’re the future.   Intrepid’s own Darrell W. shared stories of his own allies that have shaped his career and told us why ‘old white men’ need to step up to create change!   It was a privilege to hear Hellen Nkuraiya, a Maasai teacher from Kenya, tell the story of how tourism is enabling her to change girls’ lives.   And finally, Alice Morrison blew us away with her straight talking on why employers and media should wake up to women over 50.   I love being part of this community and it continues to inspire me to advocate for women's voices all over the world.

Meet the queens of South Africa’s Kruger National Park - The Black Mambas - an Intrepid Foundation partner and the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. This World Female Ranger Week, we are recognising their critical work to protect rhinos and other endangered wildlife. On a number of Intrepid trips in Southern Africa, travellers visit their HQ and hear their firsthand accounts of the importance of conservation and the harsh realities of wildlife crime, which continues at an alarming rate. Not only do the Black Mambas play a vital role in safeguarding endangered species and preserving these ecosystems, but they are paving the way for women and girls into fulfilling careers in conservation. We are proud to support their work and amplify their incredible stories of impact. Learn more 🖤👉 https://lnkd.in/gYYaC_AB How Many Elephants - International NGO

Earlier this year, we were fortunate to host a BBC News film crew in Antarctica on their quest to document the impacts of climate change on whale habitats.   Intrepid is proud to support WWF-Australia’s ‘Protecting Antarctic Giants’ project, working towards securing Antarctic habitats and safeguarding Antarctic species, by carrying WWF scientists on a number of our Antarctica voyages.   The BBC captured their vital work in jaw-dropping footage, filled with ice-dotted bays, waddling gentoo penguins and migrating blue whales.   We believe travel can be used as a force for good, and through this collaboration we can give back to conservation and protect these marine giants for generations to come 💙

Welcome to Pakistan – home to five of the tallest mountains on Earth and the setting for our brand-new 10-day Trek Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains trip. We’ve just hosted one of our first departures with a group of adventurous travel writers, and we can’t wait to read how they bring to life the country’s stunning snow-capped peaks, incredible cuisine, and warm and welcoming people ✍ With this departure, Intrepid becomes one of the only international operators with a dedicated trekking trip in Pakistan. Our aim is to support tourism development and amplify the unique voices of local communities who have had little opportunity to showcase the rich diversity of their country in the past, but are eager to start welcoming travellers 💚
