A business-aligned security approach is key to recognizing the long-term value of security spending. Executives and security teams must incorporate enterprise-wide perspectives within all security initiatives. This strategy-first mindset goes beyond technology, enabling organizations to implement effective, cost-optimized business transformations.

National cybersecurity strategies need to be multi-tier and each tier (people, process, technology) needs to be funded separately. I am aware of large multinational corporations being able to and spending a lot of money on cybersecurity and cyber resilience (and obviously charging more to the customers to retain their margin).
But the vulnerable segments mentioned by Anupam and vulnerable segments not mentioned by Anupam are not able to and therefore do not spend a lot of money of cybersecurity and cyber resilience. And I include micro enterprises into these vulnerable segments. Essentially there is no dedicated tier of people, process, technology dedicated to help improve cybersecurity and cyber resilience to vulnerable segments, because they cannot pay for this.
We leave vulnerable people to fend for themselves in a digital world that they are ill equipped to fend for themselves, because there are cyber crime enterprises (including those leveraging such vulnerable segments) preying on them at every corner. This is cruel and inhuman.
As the economy becomes a gig economy, the vulnerable segments have no option but to engage digitally with private and public services. Digital is the new normal way of living and working. Nation states need to create a tier of people, process and technology, so that vulnerable segments can live and work without fear while doing each digital operation. Unless nation states help vulnerable segments overcome these fears, they will not have the confidence needed to spend and that will reduce economic growth.
So every nation state that wants growth in 2023 needs to create a separate tier of people, process, technology to enable cybersecurity and cyber resilience for vulnerable segments.

In a world where cyber threats lurk around every corner, have you ever wondered how to construct impenetrable defenses? Because what you consider safe today may not be safe tomorrow.
Recently, I had the pleasure of discussing how we can build cyber-resilient enterprises for greater futures with esteemed industry leaders Jay Chaudhry Gabe Marzano 🌪 Patrick McCrann and Gopal Padinjaruveetil, in the 34th edition of TCS Forum: Thought Leadership Conversations. The conversation revolved around how #cyberresilience is about forging an unwavering security mindset that permeates every fiber of enterprises. All of us recognized that a proactive approach towards cybersecurity is a must to protect our organizations, our customers, and most importantly, our people.
While technology has improved access to healthcare, education, banking and financial services, it has also enabled cyber threats to grow. As a result, marginalized and vulnerable sections of society - from senior citkens to children to those with limited digital literacy - are the ones who are being affected the most. Organizations must recognize that #cybersecurity cannot be an afterthought but should be the bedrock of sustainable growth.
One of the key points highlighted at the event was the urgent need to transition from traditional firewall and VPN technologies to a more robust zero-trust architecture. I echo the sentiment that we should implement changes in the overall architectural approach and work within an #ecosystem. Strong cybersecurity partners, programs, and teams are vital for balancing the future implications of emerging technologies.
Since cybercrime is a global problem, it requires global solutions to which #innovation is the key! I truly believe that installing safety nets and developing robust transition roadmaps will help organizations to survive and thrive in the post-quantum cryptographic world.
I'm grateful to our esteemed guests for generously sharing their thought-provoking insights. Here's to building cyber-resilient enterprises that thrive in an era of limitless possibilities. Let's inspire each other to shape a secure digital world!
