Today is Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. On June 19, 1865 the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom over two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. 🎉 Happy Juneteenth! 🖤❤️💚 This Wednesday, June 19th, we commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The Emancipation Proclamation, issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863, declared that all enslaved people in Confederate states were to be set free. However, it took until June 19, 1865, a full two years later, for this news to reach many enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas. This day, now known as Juneteenth, symbolizes the end of slavery and the long journey toward freedom and justice. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday, honoring the resilience and contributions of Black Americans throughout history. This recognition is impactful because it formally acknowledges a crucial part of American history that had long been overlooked. It highlights the importance of liberty and equity, serving as a reminder of the progress made and the work still needed to achieve true racial parity. ✨ As we celebrate the freedom, resilience, and progress of the African American community, let’s remember the significance of this day and continue to educate ourselves and others about this pivotal moment in history. Here’s to honoring our past, empowering our present, and shaping our future. ✊🏾📚 #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #BlackHistory #CelebrateDiversity #TheMobileBroker #NYCRealtor #NYCRealEstate

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, announcing the end of slavery. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued two and a half years prior, news traveled slowly, and for many enslaved people, Juneteenth marked their true liberation. Juneteenth is a celebration of: ✨Freedom: A day to honor the end of a dark chapter in American history. ✨Resilience: A testament to the strength and perseverance of the Black community. ✨Unity: A time to come together and celebrate Black culture and heritage. How will you celebrate Juneteenth? #Juneteenth #BlackHistoryMonth #FreedomDay #CelebrateFreedom

Juneteenth honors the day that the end of slavery was announced in Galveston, TX by Major General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1965. During the Civil War, many enslavers fled southern states to Texas with their captives to maintain the enslavement system. There weren't enough Union troops in Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation (January 1, 1863), and Texas was the final state to release some 250k enslaved Black people two and a half years after the executive order was issued. The Juneteenth Flag was created by Ben Haith in 1977, and is full of symbolism: • The Star in the center has dual meaning. It represents the state of Texas, which was the first state to recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday. The star also represents freedom for African Americans in all 50 states. • The supernova/Starburst surrounding the single star represents a new beginning for African Americans, just as the supernova is the birth of a new star. • The arc in the middle of the flag represents a new horizon, full of the opportunities and promise that lay ahead for Black Americans. • The colors red white and blue serves as a reminder that the formerly enslaved and their descendants are just as American as anyone else - if not more so. The colors are a commitment to live up to the ideals of liberty and justice for all. "Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory or an acceptance of the way things are. It's a celebration of progress. It's an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible - and there is still much work to do" - Barack Obama.

You should not need permission to learn American History. Like every heritage month, THIS is why this month is critical. This is why we have this month, for those who like to quote Morgan Freeman and others who think we shouldn’t have “a month.” No, we are not regulated to just one month. Our contributions to American society are felt 365 days a year which is why we choose to highlight those contributions every February. They can thank Black Americans every day for the Stop Light (Garrett Morgan), The Washer & Dryer system (George T. Sampson), Home Security System (Mary Van Brittan Brown), and the list can go on & on. Let’s take the time to appreciate and learn about the significant contributions made by Black Americans throughout history. It’s not optional. It’s essential. #bhm #socialtalk #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #history #dei #faculty #professor #DoddsEducates #UnitedStates #USA #UnitedStatesOfAmerica #Polialertcom #segregation #intergration #Education #AmericanHistory
