📣 A Wake-Up Call for America 🗽 America, it's time for a sobering reflection. Have we, in our pursuit of progress, become so entitled and ungrateful that we've lost sight of the fact that, though imperfect, our nation stands as the greatest ever built? Our pride should never blind us to the incredible opportunities this land has offered us. It's a place where dreams can be pursued, where people can unite in diversity, and where freedom thrives. Freedom is never free, but it is worth fighting for. This is not the moment for silence, but a time for courage. America faces challenges from within, and we must address them with resolve. Let's remember the values that unite us and work together to preserve this great nation for future generations. 🌟🗽 #UnitedWeStand #AmericanPride #CourageousAmerica #GratefulNation #AmericaTheBeautiful #EPluribusUnum #FreedomMatters #LandOfOpportunity #StrengthInDiversity #StandTogether #PreserveOurNation #WakeUpCall #UnityInDiversity #WeAreAmerica #Patriotism #TimeForChange #StrengthInUnity #AmericaIsGreat #LandOfTheFree #HomeOfTheBrave #OpenLetter #America #BuildTheFuture #US🗽

Is identity an obstacle to overcome? "People like me were once told we wouldn't make it here" "Too brown" "Too specifically ethnic" "Too stereotyped" "She is just too much" "Someone has to tell her... she has UNREALISTIC expectations" These were the echoes America Ferrera heard in the entertainment industry, resonating with experiences still felt by many Latinas in foreign lands today. However, when we find our voice and speak out against the injustices that have held us back for so long, something shifts within us. Our IDENTITY is OUR SUPERPOWER If I need to blend in, perhaps it's not the place for me. This is a class and ethnic elephant in the room we need to address. Repeat with me!!! I am Latina, and I am qualified for the job of my dreams 😍 I am Latina, and I don't run from sun, I am always looking for more! 🤣 I am Latina, and I am more than a face or a body 🙄 I am Latina, and I am passionate about all I do and that's not a bad thing 😑 I am Latina, and I am not hot tempered, I put boundaries, just like everyone else 🤷♀️ I am Latina, and I am energetic and a hard worker! 🙇♀️ In a world interconnected and boundless, nobody should feel compelled to mask their origins for opportunity. Let's draw inspiration from America Ferrera's journey and realize that our identity is not an obstacle but a catalyst for change. an opinion that is a matter of national security for the US, The 21st century is becoming both complex and is closely interconnected than any prior period of human history, since the 16th century, the world started it roots in the age of exploration, Marco Polo to the Orient, Admiral Perry to Japan,Christopher Columbus to the West Indies, John Henry , Portugal, around the coast ofAfrica, etc. Travel has become a way of life, migration, the Expulsion of the Jewish Communities in Spain, 15th century, whereby the Jewish Communities fled to east, west, Europe and Africa, even in France, our Ancestors, 16th century fled the persecution of the Protestants vs Catholics to Northern Italy, Naples too. Today, humanity is diverse in social and political views, as well as the growth of sectarian groups, Hamas,Etc, source Iran. Our full support to the state of Texas, another historic day in the US, states rights, due to lack of support bythe Federal Govt. three million plus freely across the border, an dangerous open door on the southern border. This is a powerful journey of self-discovery and a deep dive into the complex history of Indo-Caribbean migration to Trinidad. This resonates deeply with me as someone with Trinidadian roots, connecting not just through shared geography but also through the layers of history and identity that shape our narratives. Thank you, Anna-Liza Badaloo for taking the initiative to explore and share this important aspect of your heritage, shedding light on the lesser-known history of Indian indentured servants in the Caribbean. Anna's personal reflections on privilege, particularly within the context of the divisive dynamic between Black and Indian communities in Trinidad, add a nuanced layer to the narrative. It's a courageous acknowledgment of the historical impact on relationships and attitudes. In understanding our individual stories, we can contribute to an ongoing conversation about identity, privilege, and the ever-evolving understanding of our roots. Through intentional exploration, we can pave the way for a more inclusive and enriched understanding of ourselves and others.

How can we use our privilege if we can't acknowledge it? In my latest for the Indo-Caribbean Canadian Association's STORY publication, I reflect upon being a descendant of Indian indentured servants, the impacts upon my own internalized racism, and how the Black/Indian divide that the colonizers set up then, still reverberates today. When the British abolished Black slavery around 1834 they had a problem: how could they maintain the ever-growing British Empire without enslaved Africans? Between 1845 and 1917 an astonishing 143,939 Indians came to Trinidad under the system of Indian indenture. Read the full piece to learn what they were promised, and how this history factors into current tensions between Brown and Black folks in the Caribbean and beyond: https://lnkd.in/gxgXxfxd #caribbean #indiandiaspora #colonialism
