“Indonesia can become a major sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer” has just been republished in The Jakarta Post newspaper today! With an estimated biomass potential of 3.8 exajoules (EJ), Indonesia could produce more than 200 millions barrels of SAF. As such, the country has the potential to not only meet domestic demand but also export its SAF to Asia-Pacific countries. To become a major SAF producer, the Indonesian government must undertake three strategic actions in collaboration with relevant firms, such as PT Pertamina (Persero) and Garuda Indonesia: (1) utilising sustainable feedstocks, (2) increasing the quality and blending ratio of SAF, and (3) creating an attractive investment climate for international collaboration. Led by the Kuok Maritime Group, the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA) is at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation, from electrification of coastal vessels to developing green marine fuels. The investment in biobutanol is a strategic step towards larger-scale production and adoption of viable B50 blends by 2026. It allows legacy fleet owners a viable pathway to utilise it as a drop-in fuel in their transition to electrification. Leading the green fuels initiative, Green COP Pte Ltd's patented technology, which significantly reduces energy requirements in biobutanol production, will be deployed at a pilot plant in Johor, Malaysia. This effort, in collaboration with Ken Energy Pte Ltd will support market validation through real-world application in its marine fleet. A big thanks to Rong Wei Neo for the story and to Desmond Gregory Chong, Hanson Lee, Bernard Liew, Tiffany Khek, TS Teo, Yee Ching SNG for working with us to make this happen. #maritime #biofuels #greentransition #maritimedecarbonization #greenmarine #marinebiofuels #cleanenergy #sustainability

Hear from Aiden Lee, CEO/Managing Director of Graphjet Technology (NASDAQ:GTI), as he presents on "Recycling palm kernel shells to produce graphite” at the Valorising Oil Palm & Agri Waste Feedstocks conference (1-2 October, Jakarta). The palm oil industry generates 126 million tonnes of POME waste annually, presenting a valuable resource for biogas production and contributing significantly to Indonesia's green energy transition with the right technological investments. Pertamina, JGC, Osaka Gas, and INPEX have recently explored POME-based biomethane, which can be integrated into existing natural gas infrastructures. Agricultural waste from various industries, including palm oil, rice, coconut, and sugarcane, holds potential for sustainable energy production through methods like anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis. As Indonesia aims to meet its 2060 emission reduction targets, the Valorising Oil Palm & Agri Waste Feedstocks conference will explore leveraging these bio-waste resources for a sustainable future. Kit Based Gasifiers Shipped to Indonesia. November has been a month of mixed emotions. Earlier Biogen shipped the latest Wegsheid Entrenco WE50P systems in a new kit format developed in the UK. The new concept allows for assembly at Wegsheid Entrenco’s new Joint Venture in Batam Indonesia. The kit-based system is designed to enable a progressive ramp up of both capacity and local content over the next 18 months, with an envisaged capacity of 1,000+ systems p.a. The systems were also the first produced under a joint CE/UKCA mark. Ex Biogen staff will be going out to Indonesia in the coming months to train Indonesian team members on the new assembly concept. Unfortunately, the systems shipped will be last produced in the UK as Biogen is closing its manufacturing operation at the end of November. For more details and to discuss how Wegsheid Entrenco Biomass CHP systems might assist your businesses journey to Net Zero contact Julian Ackerley on 07548881934 or email j.ackerley@we-bioenergy.com #Indonesia #Batam #NetZero #Innovation #CarbonDrawdown #MadeInBritain #UKGBC #ShortRotationCoppiceWillow #BiomassCHP #WegsheidEntrencoBioenergie #Trigeneration #Chilledwater #BiomassGassification

UNSW Scientia Professor of Chemical Engineering, Co-Director ARC Training Centre for the Global Hydrogen Economy (GlobH2E)
Well said, Denny! The aviation industry, known for being difficult to decarbonise, definitely needs a concerted global effort to develop sustainable solutions. Your article in The Jakarta Post highlights Indonesia's vast potential to become a leading producer of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with its significant biomass resources. Additionally, the potential of utilising renewable power sources to further fuel the production of SAF (Power SAF) should not be overlooked. This presents a perfect opportunity for countries like Australia to engage in close collaboration with Indonesia. By pooling resources and expertise, we can expedite the production of SAF, making the aviation industry more sustainable and efficient throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Such partnerships are crucial for technological advancements and setting a global standard for the aviation sector’s shift towards sustainability. #P2X #SAF

I would like to dedicate my first LinkedIn post with a little achievement of mine. I've just recently completed my final year project entitled Various Effects of Palm Oil based Biodiesel (B7, B10, B30) Spray Behaviour under the guidance and supervision of Prof. Ts. Dr. Noreffendy Tamaldin. Malaysia has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable energy solutions, and the Malaysia Biodiesel Programme is a shining example of the commitment to a greener future. The program aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by incorporating biodiesel derived from palm oil, a significant natural resource abundant in our country. My research aligns perfectly with the goals of the Malaysia Biodiesel Programme as it explores the potential benefits of utilizing palm oil biodiesel blends as alternative fuels for diesel engines. By characterizing the macroscopic spray characteristics of different biodiesel blends, I shed light on how these blends can positively influence combustion efficiency and emission performance in diesel engines. As Malaysia continues to drive the adoption of biodiesel in its transportation sector, my research provides valuable insights into fuel-air mixing in diesel combustion, a critical aspect for the successful implementation of the Malaysia Biodiesel Programme. I'm honored to have worked and contributed on a project that aligns with Malaysia's vision for a greener and more sustainable future. The completion of this project marks the end of my degree journey. #palmoil #biodiesel #research #automotiveindustry #MalaysiaBiodieselProgramme

Indonesia Confident About Winning EU Lawsuit on Palm Oil Biofuel World’s largest palm oil producer Indonesia is confident about winning its biofuel lawsuit against the European Union (EU) while saying that the ongoing dispute will not affect the negotiations on the long-awaited trade pact with the 27-membered bloc. In 2019, Indonesia filed a World Trade Organization (WTO) lawsuit against the EU, claiming that the bloc’s Renewable Energy Directive II was discriminatory. The RED II sees the EU phasing out palm oil-based biofuel by 2030, claiming that such products might be at high risk of indirect land use changes (ILUC). The EU alleges that biofuel production might take place on cropland previously destined for food. This can lead to farmers extending the production of agricultural land into areas with high carbon stock such as forests, potentially negating the emission savings from biofuel use. The biofuel may be exempt from the limitations if the palm oil is classified as low-risk of ILUC.
