Data is key. Thank you to the Giving Gap for sharing this report today. I am sharing because it is that important to communicate and comprehend! See key finding below but please download the report also because there is so much you need to know! -Despite their unwavering commitment to addressing our country's greatest social challenges, Black leaders and their organizations are forced to navigate a funding ecosystem that unfairly advantages their white counterparts and restricts their own capacity for growth. -Passion and commitment don't pay the bills Despite their dedication, many leaders need to supplement their nonprofit income with additional jobs due to financial constraints (62%). -Black nonprofits need to keep the lights on The top need identified by these organizations is financial support for general operations (97%), highlighting the importance of grants and contributions. -Money is key, but it isn't everything Success is not solely attributed to financial support. Leaders highlighted their strong skill sets, spiritual practices, and support networks as crucial factors. #BackBlack #Blacknonprofits #collectivegiving #collectivepower

Wow! What an amazing event to kick off Black Philanthropy Month! I learned a lot from NGAAP guest speaker, Michelle Muri, about the importance of Community-Centric Fundraising. A fundraising model with principles grounded in race, equity and social justice. It works to: * Prioritize the entire community over individual organizations * Foster a sense of belonging and interdependence * Present our work not as individual transactions but holistically * Encourage mutual support between nonprofits #BPM2023CLT https://lnkd.in/geWjC86g

August is #BlackPhilanthropyMonth, a celebration of the legacy of Black giving and the ingenuity of Black philanthropic leadership. According to the Black Future Co-op Fund, traditional philanthropy only invests 1.8% in Black-led nonprofits. Moving toward shared abundance requires intentional, significant increased investment in Black communities. For more on how to increase investment in Black nonprofits and communities, see the Co-Op’s informative resources: https://lnkd.in/gj9Eb4KF #BPM2023

BLACK PHILANTHROPY Every year, billions of dollars are donated to nonprofit organizations, which receive free donor dollars and tax-free impact dollars, but more people think that it’s only wealthy white people who donate. People are wrong when they nurture the stereotype that African Americans are terrible charitable people or don’t have a culture of philanthropy because of the assumption of poverty. A good example came from "Madam C.J. Walker," "the first black woman to become a millionaire and a remarkable philanthropist during Jim Crow." She gave her money to help poor black communities, showing that giving is about more than money. In fact, philanthropy is a big business where black people play a core role. "Black doesn’t crack, and black gives back". Indeed, according to a report provided by the #Lilly Family School of Philanthropy# at Indiana University, 30% of AA members donate more and are twice as likely to believe their gift will have a significant impact. Moreover, 41% pledged to increase their gifts in the next five years. Despite the stereotypes, black people should continue to use a unified strategy to strengthen the philanthropy industry. #Blackhistorymonth# #Blackphilanthropy# #socialjustice# #racialequity
