When we met Brad Porter initially, one of the things that struck us was how differently he was building a company in the robotics space. Brad was laser focused on getting product in the hands of customers - quickly! Today they announce that their first robots are live in a production setting. We believe deeply that winners in the current crop of full stack robotics companies will be those that focus on getting products in the hands of customers and rapidly iterating based on in-field learnings. Excited to share we went live in production with our cobot last week! We’re moving industrial carts in a transload facility outside of Seattle. Last week we moved more than 25,000lbs of goods and over 20km of travel safely in and around humans. Excited for the partnership with you and your team Erez A.! Do you know where #barcodes originate from? Inventor Joe Woodland first drew a barcode in the sand on Miami Beach in 1949, decades before technology could bring his vision to life. On 3 April 1973, Woodland's vision became a reality when industry leaders agreed on a common business practice - the barcode. A year later, on 26 June 1974, a pack of Wrigley’s chewing gum became the first product in the world to be scanned at a till in an Ohio supermarket. In 1982, on 7 May, eight years later, GS1 South Africa opened its doors, originally known as the South African Numbering Association. Yesterday, on 26 June 2024, we celebrated the #50th Anniversary of the #first #barcode #scan in that Ohio supermarket. As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first barcode scan, let’s reflect on the journey of innovation that began with Joe Woodland’s vision in 1949. The barcode has revolutionised how we conduct business, making processes more efficient and reliable. To honor this milestone, we encourage everyone to think about how innovation and technology have impacted our industry and consider how we can continue to drive progress in the future. We saw a very disappointing crop of Super Bowl ads this year. And I do mean there were some serious dogs relying on celebrity inclusion as the crux within hollow scripts that had no recognizable plot or point. Yet, a few gems appeared--Dunkin Donuts was cleverish, United Airlines was highly targeted and well done, and Mr. Pringles was quite good--E*Trade was memorable, too. But top spot for Super Bowl ads this year goes to Volkswagen (VW). The concept was brilliant and engaging--genuine storytelling that not only walked viewers through the brand's history, but through its journey with American drivers. In doing so, it highlighted what catapulted it in the US market--the fact that it was the opposite of what US car makers were pushing at its introduction. The bug was small, quirky looking, and exactly right for an emerging generation dead set on pushing against the status quo. Set to Neil Diamond's "I Am ... I Said" as the music, well-paced time-traveling clips showed the evolution of the VW and its integration into American culture, even clips from "Herbie the Love Bug" film series. And, it includes a prior ad reference to Star Wars--another exceptional spot by VW. all tapping into the emotional nostalgia of the brand. There is something for everyone in this time capsule of Americana. It is a love story about cars and their drivers, culminating in the payoff of the tight concluding line, "We shape its metal ... You shape its soul." And the final scene previewing what's next--return of the microbus, makes it a neverending story. #brandidentity #writing #superbowl #vw #branding
