Today is not only 29th Feb which occurs on a Leap year, it also notably Rare Disease Awareness Day. Rare conditions are individually rare but collectively common, with over 7000 identified. One of these rare diseases is Mucopolysarcharidosis type I (MPS1)" which would be more commonly known as Hurler Syndrome which is a rare disease (it occurs in 1 in every 100,000 babies), MPS1 is a condition where your body doesn't have enough enzymes to break down sugar molecules. The condition causes skeletal/joint abnormalities, distinct facial characteristics, issues with cognitive development, heart and lung (respiratory) problems and an enlarged liver and spleen. #rarediseaseday2024 #rarediseaseawareness #rarediseaseresearch

🧠💡 Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a condition sadly on the rise and affecting around one million people in the U.S alone. To raise awareness and improve our understanding of this disease, the month of April has been chosen as Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month 🗓, in honor of James Parkinson, the man who first identified the disease over 200 years ago. We've made great strides towards understanding PD, especially its distinctive motor symptoms, thanks to relentless scientific efforts 🔬. However, it's also critical to note that the disease encompasses a broad spectrum of non-motor symptoms, which weren't initially associated with PD. This further complicates the disease and affects the quality of life of those living with it. The Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month campaign is designed to enlighten everyone about the various aspects of PD 👥. It focuses on the multitude of symptoms that affect daily life, along with suggestions on how to manage them effectively. Early recognition leads to early diagnosis 🏥 and an improved life quality overall. So, let's take this chance and learn more about PD. Together, we can make a difference. #ParkinsonsAwarenessMonth #LearnAndSupport 🤝🖊️🕯️

Today marks Rare Disease Awareness Day, and I'm utilizing my social media platforms to raise awareness. Did you know that a rare disorder is a condition affecting fewer than 200,000 Americans? In total, there are over 10,000 rare diseases impacting more than 30 million Americans. Despite significant progress in diagnosing rare diseases, the current situation is not satisfactory. Out of 7,000 known rare and neglected diseases with identified molecular causes, only around 500 have approved treatments. Let's take action! We must increase awareness and funding to discover cures. In this day and age of medical advancements, we can strive for better outcomes. #lupusawareness #lupusadvocacy #MultipleSclerosis #MultipleSclerosisAwareness #raredisease #rarediseaseawareness

It's Lyme disease Awareness Month! Unfortunately, many sufferers feel dreadful but still look fine! (as in the book "But she looks fine," by the amazing 20 year old, Olivia Goodreau). Symptoms can be ever changing - migrating pain, brain fog, memory loss, arthritis, chronic fatigue, headaches - so many! (And with a poor blood test it's no wonder it's difficult to diagnose. "A negative result doesn't mean it's negative".... There is a free online 'Healing from Lyme Summit' June 4-11 by Drs Talks with 50 experts - hosted by expert, Dr. Richard Horowitz, author of How Can I get Better. There is hope! https://lnkd.in/eyyQuQj8. Please share.
