Altarea Finalizes Acquisition of Prejeance Industrial from Repsol, Strengthening Photovoltaic Development in France Altarea has completed the acquisition of Prejeance Industrial (PI) from the Spanish group Repsol, enhancing its photovoltaic installation development platform in France. This strategic move aligns with the Group’s new activities segment, launched in 2023. Founded in 2019, Prejeance Industrial specializes in small to medium-sized rooftop photovoltaic projects (100 to 500 kWp), primarily on agricultural sheds. The company’s experienced team of 18 employees manages the entire solar power project lifecycle, including development, construction, asset management, and financing/refinancing. Scatec ASA and Equinor have agreed to fully divest the 117 MW Guañizuil IIA solar power plant in Argentina to Central Puerto. The 117 MW Guañizuil IIA solar power plant was originally developed and built in 2021 by Scatec and Equinor as a 50:50 joint venture. During the construction phase, Equinor had provided a a non-recourse bridge loan to the joint venture which had to be refinanced in due course, though the companies were unable to refinance the loan to the ‘increasingly challenging political and economic situation in Argentina’. “Therefore, a sales process was initiated and during the second quarter firm offers from potential buyers have been received,” explained Scatec in its Q2 and H1 2023 results. “These came in significantly below the current total book value of the project. Consequently, Scatec has recognised an impairment charge of NOK 350 million in the second quarter, corresponding to the full book value of the equity investment.” In addition to the solar plant, Scatec and Equinor will also sell their shares in their local operating services company to Argentinian power generator Central Puerto. As a result of the sale, Scatec will now exit Argentina’s clean energy market. #cleanenergy

Fraunhofer CSP together with 15 leading European partners starts EU joint industry project #BAMBOO in which offshore solar technology is scaled up to formats of 150 MW enabling to build Gigawatt scale farms. Placing solar farms within offshore wind farms: ➡️ better utilise ocean space ➡️ increasing energy output ➡️ enables more continuous power generation across seasons ➡️ reduces the cost of green power generation and the energy system The collaboration coordinated by RINA between offshore solar developer Oceans of Energy four technology developers (Solarge, TKF (BV Twentsche Kabelfabriek), Pauwels Transformers, SolarCleano), five technical- and environmental consultancies (RINA, ABS, Aquatera Ltd, Aquatera Atlantico and WavEC - Offshore Renewables), three testing laboratories (MARIN (Maritime Research Institute Netherlands), #Fraunhofer CSP, SIRRIS), the marine policy think-tank European Marine Board IVZW, and the offshore wind farm developer Vattenfall as potential client for implementation, is aimed to resolve remaining challenges for the rollout of large scale offshore solar into new- and existing wind farms.

The aim of MARINERG-i is to accelerate the research, development and deployment of all offshore renewable energy technologies including offshore wind (fixed and floating), wave, tidal, offshore solar and combined energy technologies including energy storage and electrical components. To experience first hand the developments in the offshore renewable energy sector, partners of the project visited the @EDF Renouvelables  offshore wind farm and the @Floatgen floating wind demonstrator at the @SEM REV test site in the Atlantic near Saint Nazaire last week. A pan-European consortium, led by Nova Innovation, has recently been awarded €20m in EU funding for a 4 MW tidal turbine farm in Orkney. The project will see the installation of 16 turbines, each equipped with SKF bearing and seal solutions. Nova's SEASTAR project is set to surpass all existing global deployments in terms of turbine installations. This significant milestone paves the way for mass manufacturing in the tidal industry.
