Microsoft proudly announces a pioneering 20-year agreement with BTG Pactual Timberland Investment Group (TIG) to secure 8 million tons of high-quality, nature-based carbon removal credits in Brazil. This significant offtake, our third in Brazil this year, highlights LATAM's vital contribution to global climate solutions. 🌱 This deal, the world's largest carbon removal credit transaction to date, stems from TIG's ambitious $1B+ reforestation strategy, with Conservation International as the Impact Adviser. 🌲The initiative aims to protect and restore 135,000 hectares (approximately 330,000 acres) of deforested landscapes, planting hundreds of millions of trees. Around 75MM+ of these trees will directly support the delivery of credits to Microsoft, reinforcing our commitment to ecological, climate, and social impacts. The #VoluntaryCarbonMarket is projected to grow to $50 billion by 2030 - a 50x increase over 2021. This is partly fueled by a rise in corporate #netzero pledges. In 2021, nearly half of the S&P 500 companies (54%) declared net zero or #carbonneutral commitments and nearly one quarter (24%) of those leveraged #carboncredits in their commitments. So many projects are downright unviable and unsustainable. It has really opened my eyes to this world once I went deeper into the numbers for different ESG projects whether it is for infrastructure or for transitioning a old business model towards a green one from 2018, it is extremely complex and costly. And when you deal with the so called experts, they will always find fault in everything so the costs adds up. Then later I realised no one has it figured out even though they sound like they did 😂 https://lnkd.in/gHfmcrD8
