How the sports field became fashion’s favourite runway. This tension between fashion and sport is highly gendered. Traditional gender roles would dictate that women like to go shopping while men like watching and playing sport. Of course, the reality is rarely that rigidly divided and sport and fashion have a joint history that goes back far beyond the recent series of collaborations. However, fashion’s latest era of sports mania has taken athletic fashion to new heights, finally acknowledging sport as a creative and cultural source of inspiration on the same level as art, history and cinema. Yesterday at our all-company meeting, I shared a little about Matt Scott, paralympic gold medalist and world champion paralytic basketball champion. He was also the first Paralympian to be featured in a Nike ad. See here: https://lnkd.in/g6Tq-vgB   I have been thinking about what it takes to accomplish anything at such a significant level and concluded it starts with the belief that you can and the commitment to remove the excuses from doing so. In other words, it starts with your thinking. For me, I have found the best way to consistently engineer proper thinking in my life is to reset every morning. Life tends to tell stories to us that are contrary to our dreams and desires, so every morning, it's critical to retell ourselves the right story.    I found the following quote from Scott that really drove this point home.    "I live an extremely fulfilling life of adventure, success, and athletic triumph. I have lofty goals and dream really big, and I wake up every day chasing those dreams and goals no matter what."   Big goals, re-focus on those every morning, no excuses.    Not everybody aspires to be a gold medalist, champion athlete, create headlines, or have their own Nike ad. Some want to live a quiet life of joy and significance having an impact on others behind the scenes. The formula however is similar, reset your mind on that which is most important and block out the stories that tell you otherwise. “Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love, so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.” (Psalm 90:14)   Resetting your mind each morning on the source of joy is the only way for us to hit that target consistently through this beautifully messy life.    Whatever your lofty goals and dreams may be, don't allow the world to steal those from you. Don't allow current circumstances or limiting beliefs to close doors you believe you were created to walk through. Remove excuses and insert your calling. Engineer a morning routine that sets your mind in the right place, your heart to unwavering commitment, and your feet walking in the right direction (even if they hurt). Reflecting on 2023 at LHi London on our last full working day...   Admittedly, H1 unfolded differently than anticipated, but our resilience and adaptability shone through in H2, yielding results that truly make us proud and building momentum for 2024.   Inspired by Nike's 2012 Summer Olympics "Find Your Greatness" campaign, I issued a challenge to our London team to discover their greatness by surpassing their H1 performance within a mere 5 months of H2. Let us show, what crazy can do! If we show emotion, we are called dramatic. If we want to play against men, we are nuts. If we dream of equal opportunity? Delusional. When we stand for something, we are unhinged. When we are to good, there is something wrong with us. And if we get angry, we are hysterical. Or irrational. Or just beeing crazy. But: a woman running a marathon was crazy. Officials tried to pull her off the course. A woman boxing was crazy. A woman dunking? Crazy. Coaching an NBA team. Crazy. Or winning 23 Grand Slams having a baby and then coming back for more? Crazy, crazy, crazy. So, if they want to call you crazy? Fine! Show them, what crazy can do. It is only crazy until you do it.
