Don't Let Anyone Bargain Your Talent In Sri Lanka, it's a common practice for companies to try to negotiate down salaries, especially for graphic designers. Yet, few understand the true value and effort behind our skills. My journey into graphic design was far from easy. I began without even a computer, relying on the generosity of my lecturer who offered extra hours in the institute lab so I could complete my assignments and practice. It was at JMC Education Center in Bandarawela, where my path as a graphic designer truly began. Today, with over 13 years of experience across various companies, I have earned my place and I know my worth. The journey here cost me time, money, and emotional investment. It demanded countless late nights, relentless perseverance, and unwavering dedication. I will not settle for less than I deserve because I respect my journey, my skills, and the confidence I have built. And I encourage you to do the same. Additionally, it's concerning how many companies expect one person to handle multiple roles. When hiring a graphic designer, they often expect the candidate to also do video editing, UI/UX design, and web design, all while offering a cheap salary. This undervalues the specialized skills each role requires. Every designer's path is unique and filled with its own set of challenges. Your skills are the product of your hard work and passion. Don’t let anyone undervalue what you bring to the table. Stand firm in your worth. You deserve nothing but the best. #RespectYourTalent #KnowYourWorth #GraphicDesign #CareerGrowth
