Always be urgent. Never panic.
It's my New Dev credo.
This morning, a 15 minute delay in South Bend made a tight layover seemingly impossible.
Missing my connection would have made for an 8 hour stay at O'Hare. Worse it would have meant that I couldn't keep my word to my son and pick him up from school.
I've traveled a ton- domestically for work and living and traveling abroad.
I've chased down plenty of planes and trains and even willed for tuk tuks to go faster.
As I sprinted through the airport today, I did what I always do in those situations- steadied my breath, got super tuned into my surrounding, and looked for all the signs.
It's easy to make a mistake in those hurried moment. A missed exit when you're already running behind.
But in those moments, when the instinct is to put your head down and charge forward, it's best to look up and tune in.
Lease ups are much the same. Especially this time of year.
The clock is ticking, budgets are getting tight, markets aren't cooperating, and comps are making it rain gift cards.
Be urgent. Don't panic.
Tune into your surrounding and look for all the signs.
Know when the ground shifts.
Have the conviction to stay the course... sometimes. Don't be too proud to pivot.
For those of you also on this wild ride that is New Dev, I see you out there doing big things. Keep going!
P.S. I made my connection. Breathless but on time. :)
