We’ve asked growers around the world to share how social platforms have revolutionized the way they grow food and protect plants. Here’s what they said.👇
Today we celebrate the power of social media in bringing our global agriculture community closer together.
Happy World Social Media Day! 🌍

What are the psychological, and cumulative, effects of the countless meat, egg & dairy ads we see every day?
In our blog for Common Cause Foundation we look at what the proliferation of meat advertising in our public spaces says about our culture, and how we are encouraged to relate to animals, and each other. We explore how ending advertising for the products of the oppressive factory farming system can bring wider benefits for society.

Another study (in Montana!) validating that wolves and grizzly bears do not cause the numbers of livestock losses that they are blamed for. Yes, predation/depredation events do happen but these numbers are negligible at best. If there is proof that the losses are from predators, livestock producers are compensated. This study also shows that coexistence with predators can be achieved. If we are talking numbers, hunters kill far more game animals than predators. Predator kills on animals such as elk and other deer species are compensatory at best.

˝Between 2007 and 2020, the wolf population increased and eventually leveled off, while livestock losses to wolves remained low.
The central lesson of this effort is that living with large carnivores requires bringing people together to build trust, to generate a shared understanding of the problem using science, and to develop a participatory and equitable approach for changing practices and adopting tools that foster coexistence with carnivores.˝

THE ARRIVAL OF SPOTTED LANTERNFLY: TIPS FOR ILLINOIS FARMERS
Spotted lanternfly (SLF) is an invasive species that was detected for the first time in Illinois in 2023. It is a nuisance pest as well as an agricultural pest. While the full extent of its effects are not known, farmers need to be informed about monitoring and management of this invasive pest. This past week's farmdoc daily webinar took an in-depth look at SLF biology, behavior, and research-based control methods — such as manual removal and insecticides — to help farmers make a plan for protecting their operations.
