Do you know when the first solar cell was created? In April of 1954, scientists at Bell Laboratories in New Jersey made the first silicon solar cell; their development appeared on the front page of The New York Times that month. Solar energy technology has come a long way in the last 70 years. In 2016, the US surpassed 1 million solar installations. “In 2023, solar accounted for over 50% of new electricity generating capacity added to the grid and employs over 260,000 Americans.
