We're thrilled to share that we've been accepted into - and just started - the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) TENx Market Access Program! This is a huge validation for us - and we're truly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with LACI in scaling our operations and making a positive impact on the environment and society! The TENx Market Access Program is a fantastic 18-month initiative aimed at helping cleantech startups during their commercial growth and large-scale pilot phase (that's us!). This program will connect us with LACI's network of investors and partners - providing valuable resources to help us grow! A big thanks to all our partners, vendors and advisors who have supported us as we set ambitious goals to build out our Purpose Driven Infrastructure and Consumer Services platform and launch multiple Mobility Hubs across Southern California, starting in Los Angeles in Q4 2023. As we rapidly grow, we're looking for introductions across debt/equity, renewable infrastructure, energy, software, microgrids, grants/pilots and public/private sector partnerships (that's a lot!). When it comes to pivotal domains like white hydrogen, pyrolysis, biogas, DAC, or SAF, gas separation technologies are at the heart of overcoming carbon emission hurdles. These processes are traditionally energy-intensive and costly, often requiring 🔥 thermal or mechanical means to achieve separation, which significantly contributes to both operational expenses and carbon emissions. They constitute around 15% of the global energy consumption and 16% of CO2 emissions. Osmoses is changing things up with its innovative membranes for gas separation, paving a path for a more efficient, precise solution with a reduced energy and physical footprint. Meet Shiri Freund Koren, BIRD's Director of Business Development in the Southern U.S., who recently took center stage in an interview with the Texas Venture Alliance. A longtime resident of Austin, Shiri is well acquainted with the region's vast talent and vibrant innovation ecosystem and focuses on making synergistic connections with strategic partners in Israel. As BIRD's U.S. coordinator for the U.S.-Israel Energy Center, she is particularly excited about Texas' future in the energy and agtech sectors and the potential for impactful collaborations with Israeli clean technology companies. Anaphite CEO, Joe Stevenson, is looking forward to attending the Elbow Beach Capital and Climate Connection Catalyst Dinner in London in a couple of weeks! The focus of the event will be on batteries and the green energy transition. Batteries are a key technology to decarbonisation, but they are not a silver bullet solution. It is important to look at how batteries are manufactured to ensure that we address embedded carbon and not just tailpipe emissions. The electrode manufacturing step represents approximately 30% of the energy consumption of battery production. This is attributed to the large, energy intensive drying ovens and solvent recovery systems required for the current wet coating process. At Anaphite, we work with our customers to reduce the embedded carbon from battery production by enabling dry battery electrode coating. We achieve this by producing tailor-formulated Dry Coating Precursor powders which are optimised for our customers' dry coating hardware. Last week in Somerville, I learned about a broad range of climate centered innovations coming out of Greentown Labs. I was impressed by the scope of problems being tackled, funders deeply committed to problem solving alongside founders, and the government policy makers working to accelerate adoption of green technologies and ease the financial costs. It felt particularly fitting that the day kicked off with a fireside chat headlined by the Governor of Massachusetts touching on initiatives ranging from workforce development and training (in high schools and at the re-education level for older adults phasing out of other industries) to tax incentives at the corporate and individual levels. To witness accelerating collaboration between corporates + a diverse range of founders building with intense purpose + state government, my optimism for our shared future amidst climate challenges is finally on the rise 📈 💸 The panel on the second valley of death (reference to later stage funding hurdles) provided particularly valuable advice to first-time founders. Third Sphere's Zeev Krieger gave an excellent primer on the latest in funding trends and the evolving capital stack mix in climate, highlighting some major differences vs other startup / VC-backed verticals: among venture funded climate companies more than 50% concentration in hardware stood out, as well as the 10X expansion in nondilutive funding options. ⚡ For those of you interested in a novel approach to electrification challenges and a keen eye towards affordability, make sure you follow Jane Chen and the rest of the team at Stepwise. 🌊 The team at SeaDeep is making undetected oil leaks and other underwater environmental damage a thing of the past.
