I love what I do at Stitch. I genuinely do. Some of my favorite parts about Stitch include our ability to generate new jobs and do so in a way that creates a truly diverse team. We are a consultancy. Our growth is directly associated with the number of Stitchers on the team. While we might not be as profitable (although our gross margin is world-class for a services business) as a product company, we are a generator of jobs for our communities. The profit doesn’t go into the business for us to hold onto. It goes into creating more jobs. New careers. Career growth. And as we create our team, we can sculpt it to be diverse. Diverse backgrounds. Diverse opinions. Diversity is not only right, but it is also a competitive advantage. Our progress on this front is very positive. It has been about six weeks since our last Stitch update to publicly share our progress on diversity and inclusion with our hiring efforts. The numbers below include our current Stitchers and people who have accepted offers but have not officially started. BIPOC moved from 25% of our team to 34%. Outstanding. And 50/50 on gender. Progress continues. I would love to see more of my peers publicly share updates on their progress. 

Measure what’s important. And diversity is important to us. At Stitch, we believe a diverse team gives us a competitive advantage. Our team is collectively stronger with many different voices and backgrounds/experiences. Stitch will also better represent the communities in which we live. This is about building a world-class team. I also prefer publicly sharing how we progress on diversity fronts—nothing to hide here. Initial results: Factoring the current team and people who have signed offer letters to join us in the coming weeks, we will be 50/50 regarding gender. And 17% of our team will represent people of color. While we aren’t where we ultimately want to be, what matters is that we are moving forward. Considering how early we are with Stitch, we are off to a strong start.

Every day, employees “check out” quietly, disengaging from their work due to feeling undervalued or unheard. But what can we do to address concerns, way before people feel unheard to the point of walking-out? - Unlock Communication: Ensure everyone feels heard and respected. Encourage open dialogue and routinely invite input. - Be Responsive: Listening isn’t enough. Take action on feedback to avoid breeding cynicism and further disengagement. - Aim Higher: Strive for a workplace where everyone can express themselves, unlocking their full potential.
