Attention Employers! Prepare for the new Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance, effective July 1, 2024. This replaces the current Paid Sick Leave ordinance in place since 2017. Key Points: 1. Covered Employees: Their work is primarily performed in the City of Chicago—either at a Customer facility full-time or remotely—but they live in Chicago; this new benefit applies. 2. Paid Leave: 1 hour of paid leave for any reason + 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 35 hours worked, earning up to 80 hours per 12-month period. This results in a change to 10 days (5 days PTO and 5 days sick) versus what has been 5 days. 3. Compliance: Ensure your policies are up-to-date; don't rely solely on your payroll provider. Sterling is prepared and fully compliant with these changes. We have updated our policies and practices to align with the new Ordinance requirements and can assist your business in doing the same.
