Last week, we celebrated our APAC’s Summer Interns’ completion of their 10-week internship with BNY Mellon. The tremendous growth the interns experienced has been simply amazing. As my first intern cohort “graduates” from this internship, collating the top 3 lessons I’ve heard, learnt and observed from the past 10 weeks: 1. You can view challenges as obstacles and problems, or opportunities for growth and progress. You choose. 2. Don’t let labels such as “introvert”, “ENFP”, “not a numbers person”, “non-business background” be excuses for not giving something a shot or doing your best. 3. Reframe “I can’t because…” to “I can with…”. Spend time thinking about how to make something work, not why it doesn’t. The success of this program was greatly dependent on the strong collaboration with business stakeholders and global campus teams, having strong leaders as managers and mentors who showed the power of mentoring and coaching, and the presence of 25 energetic souls who created a huge impact in such a short amount of time. ⭐Starting off the year well⭐ Attending Goldman Sachs' Insight Day was just what I needed to really push me to upskill this year. As always, the professionals who had an expansive array of roles between them did a great job explaining what they do on a day-to-day basis, really delving into their journeys up to securing a role at the investment bank. My main takeaways were: - Learning more about what investment banks do and the part they play in Initial Public Offerings - Discovering that investment banks do not only deal with corporate customers, but also with wealthy individuals to help them with wealth management In the Q&A session, my main takeaway was to actually '[show your personality in your CV, not just your academics and work experiences]' as endeavours outside of university (such as having a side hustle or even owning a business) can speak about your competencies much more than grades and internships can! Thank you Tolu A. for this invaluable advice. I'd like to thank Goldman Sachs for all the knowledge shared, as well as upReach for providing me with the opportunity to attend this virtual insight day. As always, I thank God for helping me to grasp every opportunity I see and to keep growing.✨
