We are now in the last stretch of the semester fellow Morganites! 🧡💙The past 8 weeks have been both challenging and invigorating. In these 8 weeks I have had the pleasure of sitting as the Creative Services Director & Account Manager for the Strategy Shop. The Strategy Shop is a student-led PR agency within the School of Global Journalism and Communications. Working in a student-led PR agency has offered several benefits so far including the following: 1. Hands-On Experience 🏋🏾♀️: This semester our client is Healing City Baltimore through the Mission agency. Through this partnership on a real-world client project, I have gained practical experience in integrated communication strategies.This hands-on experience has been invaluable for enhancing my skillset and portfolio. 2.Leadership and Management Skills 📌: It’s only been 8 weeks and it feels like it’s been a full 16 with the trials myself and my team have faced. Beyond the tragic shooting during our highly anticipated homecoming, the Strategy Shop team started the semester with unfortunate news. Within the first week of the fall semester we were taught a very valuable lesson in both leadership & problem solving. That being to always have a CONTINGENCY PLAN. As the Creative Services Director, I was in charge of curating all the elements to create our team announcements for the semester. I had planned what had felt like a “Michelangelo masterpiece” in my eyes. From the creation of the moodboard to the day of the shoot I was more than pleased with this new set of work I was on my toes to share with the SGJC. Unfortunately after wrapping our 4 hour shoot, the camera and SD card were damaged to an irreparable extent. It left me feeling embarrassed, lost, and quite frankly…angry. This event challenged me to think past my usual feelings of crippling defeat and reframe the narrative of how we could still come out on top with a new shoot. If it wasn’t for the support of my mom & my team I would not have had the motivation to recreate an amazing reshoot. This event proved to me that leadership truly isn’t about the power of one, but the support system that pushes you to achieve a collective goal. It also taught me to transfer files as soon as you wrap a shoot 😂‼️ 3.Resume Enhancement⭐️: Of course going to an HBCU it is expected for you to be involved on campus. I have held a plethora of E-board roles in the past but nothing compares to my role on the Strategy Shop team. Not only does my involvement in a student-led PR agency look impressive on my resume, but I have also gained valuable skills that I can transfer into my intended career field of advertising! Overall, working in the Strategy Shop has been a valuable stepping stone for me. It has offered me a blend of experiential learning and skill development like no other. I know the conclusion of the semester will be bittersweet but I am looking forward to updating you all in the next 8 weeks! #StrategyShopUp #RoadtoGraduation #SCOMUP

I once scolded one of my apprentices for setting up a camera right before a meeting to shoot themself for social media clout. I get that we all like to share pieces of ourselves on social media. I do that too. That's not the point. I need you here and now, focused on our goals. I need you thinking about the task at hand, the possibilities and the opportunities that lay before us. A piece of your mind cannot be distracted by how you look on camera or your posture or the fact that you haven't said something in a while so you have to do something to look good. I need you to perform well, not perform for an audience. We get so caught up with the next thing we can post on social media that we're taken away from our goals. We want to tell people we're corporate bosses or that we're successful. Telling the story of the journey comes after the goddamned journey. Write your memoirs when there's something worth writing about. Not here, not now, not when all of you is needed to be successful. There'll be a ton of time to take photos when they give us the trophy.
