In order to successfully regenerate a forest, it is crucial to choose the best tree species for the location, as well as the right regeneration and site preparation processes. These choices will ensure the seedlings' establishment and healthy early development in the regeneration area. Forests often regenerate naturally by felling seedlings or through clear-cutting, sowing, or planting. When creating a new stand, viable existing seedlings and seedling groups are used.

The local communities relied heavily on the Banni grasslands for various edible grasses and greens, but these species are gradually disappearing. One of the primary causes of Banni's degradation is the spread of Prosopis juliflora, which results in a decrease in the variety of local grasses, potentially including edible ones. Though the Banni Grassland Restoration Project was started by the forest department in 2019 intending to uproot Prosopis and replace it with native grass species, the locals are coming up with inventive ways to incorporate Prosopis into their daily routines. #bannigrasslands #banni #prosopisjuliflora #localcommunities #nativegrassspecies

An amazing program to be emulated. São Paulo’s three municipal nurseries produce around 1.5 million native seedlings every year to green up the city. The Harry Blossfeld nursery alone produces 270,000 seedlings from more than 200 species of trees, 22 of which are threatened with extinction. By rescuing forgotten tree species, municipal nurseries have become spaces for science and the production of knowledge about the behavior of little-known native plants. Public landscaping helps recharge aquifers, combats heat islands, prevents flooding, attracts wildlife, improves air quality, reduces noise pollution, and contributes to city dwellers’ emotional and physical well-being. https://lnkd.in/dHY9WVTA

Native grass dominance is a land management problem in certain savanna ecosystems, finds a study from the Eastern Ghats. Grass removal and fire exclusion are found to be the immediate solution to transition the mesic savanna ecosystem in the region to historical state.
