Investment banks hire tens of thousands of eager college graduates every year as financial analysts. These are high-paying, skilled, white-collar jobs that banks are betting can be done faster and cheaper by AI. Survey Results: Finding and retaining junior talent has been a major challenge for Heads of DCM A GlobalCapital survey with leaders in Debt Capital Markets found this was the major staffing challenge in 2023; and we envisage unlikely to change in 2024 Suggested RCQ Associates - Financial Markets Specialists reasoning for this: 🔶The “missing cohort” of 2020 – when many were working from home and unsure of how to train graduates with no/minimal experience, less juniors were taken on 2020 🔶2021 also saw reduced graduate intakes also due to covid restrictions and an increased emphasis on experienced hires 🔶Experienced staff have been more likely to be cut due to cost cutting measures seen throughout the industry in 2023, with more emphasis on hiring Analysts/Associates 🔶Gen Z – are roles with a challenging work-life balance as acceptable as they once were?
