I have interviewed a variety of employees throughout my career and in that time my approach has shifted on what is or is not a "right" answer. If a candidate would have answered money 10 years ago it would have been a pause for concern and today I could view this as an authentic approach. #talentacquisition #development

Let's face it. The double standard around salary is real. - A company works for profits. - A person works for a paycheck. Yet a company has no qualm about making the most for their shareholders. In fact, it's mission priority # 1 in every earnings call. And if the company isn't performing, shareholders "fire" them. But in an interview, we're taught to act like money isn't a big deal. That the role itself is all that matters. And if even we ask about salary, or try to negotiate our offer, we're somehow less dedicated to our work. Yes, we should find a company whose mission aligns with our core values. Yes, we should ideally be passionate about the work we're doing. But we shouldn't be ashamed to admit we work for the paycheck. Because I have yet to meet a CEO that's ashamed to admit they work for maximum profit or shareholder value.

If you worked in a management position in Europe in 2002 (start of the Euro), you probably had a finance rule that allowed you to spend up to 5,000 euros before you had to go higher up and ask your L+1 manager. Adjusting for inflation, you should now be able to decide for over 8,000 euros. However, most companies have held on to that 5,000 euro limit because it's such a nice round number and compared to your monthly salary, it still makes you feel like a boss. Think about that; critical and from all sides. Take your time because this will only continue.
