✨The past weeks/months few words that belittling me has be rent free in my mind. I wonder no matter how hard you try, your effort might be invalidated or overshadowed, ruined by unrealistic high expectation.✖️ And it has always be the small mistakes being highlighted or called out. ✖️ ✨Take note that a water bottle value varies from different place, it cost RM1 at the pasar malam, RM5 at a music fest, RM15 at the bar ! Your value differs from different place. It's matter you choose where you wanted to be.🍶 ✨As picture shared, I am currently working with a freelance job inside a car. Not wanting to waste time while waiting my sister dealing with JPN, I would take this opportunity to finish a business proposal. ✨I must say although this client employ me a project, they can respect me well as a friend and also my idea & creativity. Despite I am still young, I wasn't being looked up, in fact being given the trustworthy. I am honoured and felt appreciated. ✨This made me realize the metaphor being a bottle water is real. #respect #motivation

I've recently started utilizing this slow period in freelance video and photo work to write a full-length screenplay and reconnect with my long-term creative goals. I'm grateful cause I don't always feel inspired in down time. How do you keep your eye on the prize when it could take many years (if you're lucky) to develop that next big break? We creatives have to juggle paid work and small personal steps (Like developing that next 10mins of stand-up for an open mic or taking a class). How do you identify that next rung on your 5 year plan?

The reasons why I love my job. 🧡 Let me not bore you. ❌ There are chocolate boxes, Christmas decorations and fanciful jumpers that won't tend to themselves. 🎄 Here are a few good reasons why I would not want to be anything but a creative freelancer and a little video to help share that joy. 🌟 I love people. Nuf said. I think being able to move from team to team, project to project and work with so many different people, from so many different cultures and backgrounds - is truly exciting and wonderful! 🌟 The creative side. In what world are you able to go from being a raging space warrior to your friendly voice on the TV and Radio. And it be ok. You get to not only be creative, play but also breathe life and emotion into the work that you do, every second you do it. 🌟 Personal growth. No other job has held a mirror up to my life, habits and motivations any more than this one. I develop everyday, without a doubt, as a creative, as a person and as a giver of energy. It's beautiful. I hope this inspires you to love the work you do, as the year draws to a close. Been seeing too many posts like Hunter’s recently - and that’s just the creatives. Layoffs, furloughs, slow downs, hiring and spending freezes, uphill battles and economic downturns… But it’s not just this abstract thing called “the economy;” it’s real people like Hunter. It’s VFX artists three steps down stream from the writers and actors strikes resolving last year. It’s marketing department downsizing at companies that can’t maintain their headwinds. These are good teams full of good work going undone but people that would otherwise go unpaid. So - hiring world - are you on the upswing? Are you expanding your network, your talent pool, your workforce? The picking is GOOD if you know where to look. And look you must, because not everyone will magically find your application page or “slide into your (metaphorical) DMs.” The right people know the right people, so be sure that’s who you’re asking. Good luck Hunter, and good luck to the whole creative industry right now. We need real people telling real stories more than ever. Things I've learned this weekend: 🌸 My niece cannot play Guitar Hero, but she does give good face. 🌸 Side note, it's more difficult than you might expect to play Guitar Hero in a child's Optimus Prime mask. 🌸Grief has no statute of limitations. It still hits like a hammer to the temple, especially around the bad anniversaries. 🌸 We've inadvertently conditioned my dog to think all shops have treats for her. Thankfully many do. 🌸Very few people will go to the pub for a Sunday lunch on their todd. Luckily I'm a trendsetter. 🌸Grief has no statute of limitations. It still hits like a hammer to the temple, especially around the bad anniversaries. 🌸Sometimes being freelance means that you can take time to deal with whatever is afflicting you, but sometimes you've just got to get on with. I recently took an in-person discovery meeting with a potential client I was very excited to meet. The research I had done on them looked fantastic. I had a clear vision of how my skill set could be very complimentary to their culture and their clients. I showed up prepared to dazzle with ideas and walk away with a next steps handshake. After 15 minutes, I decided not to pitch, not share my ideas, and just get through the meeting. It was a gut thing. Cutting my teeth as a talent scout in the music business, you get a feeling from the downbeat if this band or artist is the type you'd go to the matt for. Instinct, gut feeling, passion - whatever you want to call it, I'm so glad I developed it and trust it. Of course, you don't bat 1000%, but it is a trusted resource for me. Talent Scout Don would have left early in this ‘showcase’. The vibe was just wrong, and the conversation stilted. Neither party would've benefitted from going forward. As a freelancer, it's hard to pass on what looks like good work, but sometimes you just know. IYKYK, right? I'm interested in your thoughts on this. #freelance #fit #culture #creativedirection

You have to put in the work. The blood, sweat and tears clients don't see. Prepping a long script before a voiceover session. Walking over 10,000 steps on a wet Thursday morning. The foundations. Make them strong, the roots far-reaching. But not brittle. You need to bend and sway. Neville Longbottom the studio dog, was obsessed. Running with every dog he saw. Even the reactive ones. Scary! So, we put in the work, together. Whatever the weather, wherever we go. That bond? Is growing stronger by the day. With dog and human and voiceover and clients. A business isn't built in a day. And it's never finished until you are. The same goes for training the studio dog. Today, he did well. Tomorrow? Well, that's another day. Another building block. A new script. After a rocky start (because MAD//FEST is a lot and I don't get out much) I got into the swing of things and had a brilliant afternoon. I caught up with some fabulous former colleagues, clients, contacts and friends, and I listened to some really smart speakers. My favourite, because the message was so timely for me and she is so engaging, was Stefanie Sword-Williams FRSA (she/her) on "F*ck Being Humble". I'll be ordering a copy of the book, as I clearly need one. I find self-promotion painfully awkward, which is a problem for a freelancer. Apparently this is very British of me - which is ironic for someone who isn't considered British enough to have a vote tomorrow. You can look forward to me sharing just how delightful I am, in the near future. Not today though. I'm not quite ready.... I need to read the book first...
