Last weekend Riboli Family Wines employees participated in the Spartan Trifecta Sprint 5K in Big Bear, CA. This Spartan race featured a classic obstacle course including an off-road trail course featuring water and mud, scaling walls, crawling under barbed wire, traverse monkey bars, throw a spear, and more. We are so proud of everyone that participated and look forward to many more events like this!
Oktoberfest is a world-renowned beer festival that takes place annually in Munich, Germany. It has a rich history that dates back over 200 years. The festival originated in 1810 as a celebration of the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The wedding ceremony took place on October 12, andth the festivities continued for several days with horse races, parades, and other entertainment. The event was so successful that it was decided to repeat the celebration following the year, and thus the tradition of Oktoberfest was born. Over the years, the festival grew in size and popularity, attracting visitors from all over the world. Do you play or watch golf? If you do, you know each golfer has a unique approach to each shot. We have the same thought when it comes to working with brands. There is not cookie cutter approach. Each brand, farm and artisan has different needs, circumstances and challenges that they face. While the goals are always very similar, WE WANT TO SELL MORE! Of course, that is the goal for everyone. Distribution provides challenges for both brands and chefs. For chefs it maybe contracts, delivery days, minimums, cut off times, availability, pricing and beyond. For Brands it can be freight, competing product lines, lack of space, lack of attention, private labels, distributor politics and beyond. Regardless of that, what we look to do is take a similar approach that golfers take. How is the wind? What are weather conditions? How thick is the grass? How firm are the greens? How good am I swinging the club? Open dialogue is important in achieving your goals in foodservice distribution. Making the right connections and having conversations can shape the approach you take to getting to the goal of: SELL MORE! One important approach for me is stepping foot on the farm, processing facility or wherever our food comes from to better share your story. We don't look at just taking brands on for the sake of it. Curating a great mix of products with story that can benefit chefs and distributors. We all have our own approach. What is yours? Happy Masters Week! As we eagerly await the thundering hooves and the thrill of the race, it seems fitting to take a moment to delve into the intertwined history of two quintessential Kentucky treasures: the Derby itself and the state’s beloved bourbon. The Kentucky Derby, a horse race renowned worldwide, traces its roots back to the 1870s with Col. Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. Bourbon was officially recognized by Congress in 1964 as America's native spirit. Its origins are shrouded in legend, with ties to both European royalty and American ingenuity. You might be wondering, how the mint julep become the drink of the derby-the julep first got its start as a medicinal concoction used to settle the stomach. As a cocktail, it blossomed in the American South in the late 1700s, with a decidedly elite air, because not everyone had access to ice nor the silver or pewter cup in which the drink is served. The mint julep became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby in 1938. Nearly 120,000 mint juleps have been sold at the race every year since. Beyond the track, the economic impact of the Derby reverberates throughout the region, benefiting not only the racing industry but also local businesses, including bourbon distilleries, hotels, and restaurants. It's a symbiotic relationship that fuels both passion and prosperity. Random Run Chat: Life; Mohican 100; Athletic Brewing Company brew I'm registered for Mohican 100, which is on June 1st. I feel excited about the race, but also the preparation. Physically and mentally, I'm in a good spot to take on another 100 miler. Burning River 100 was last summer. These two races are about a year apart. I've done a 50 miler and 50k since then. There are several reasons behind wanting to do this race this year. One of my reasons is to continue to work hard and consistently towards my long-term goal of finishing Badwater 135. I'm getting in those consecutive 100 mile distances and focusing on dialing in the smaller details. When it comes my time to apply, I'll be 110% ready. During my journey to finishing Mohican, I plan on doing a 50 miler. Probably in March because Stephen has an ultramarathon in April. May is too close to June, I want to have a proper taper. I was considering Glacier Ridge Trail 50 Miler in May, but yeah, it's only 3 weeks from Mohican. I might volunteer at GRT again.
