How to get clients as a beginner freelancer without having clients/portfolios? Simple answer: Create a MOCK PORTFOLIO. Mock portfolio means if you don't have a real portfolio or clients, you can make your own by taking inspiration from good work from others. For instance: If you're a graphic designer, you can try taking inspiration of a design from a famous brand/creator and try to personalise with your own creativity. Or if you're copywriter, you take a copy and work on how to make it better. But how can I get clients out of this, and what are it's benefits you ask? 1: You show your skills even without real clients. 2: It proves that you're getting better at being creative and following the trends. 3: You show you are your first client and that you're improving your creativity by learning from the best in the industry. 4: As your business grows, you will gain a deeper understanding of the work done by the people you want to work with. This insight allows you to identify where they're going wrong and you can provide solutions through your services to fix it. For example, if you find a badly written copy, you can pitch them where they're going wrong, why are they not able to convert, give solution and offer your services to fix it. 5: Also, helps you not to fall in a loop like "I don't have a portfolio, because I don't have clients" and vice-versa. So, my advice to new freelancers is to start this way. You need not depend on somebody else to give you work. Instead, treat yourself like your first client and do justice. #freelance #marketing #branding

Every freelancer must have a portfolio website. Your portfolio allows you to showcase your: 💻 Skills by posting your projects 💸 Value by explaining the impact of the projects 😎 Expertise in your industry 😏 Strategic thinking when you clearly communicate how you understand your ideal clients' pain points Include these 3 things in your portfolio to stand out to future clients (and boost your income). 1) Descriptions of your projects Including screenshots of your work without any explanations isn't enough. Potential clients need a recap of the creative brief to understand if you met the goal. So include a write up with: client overview, project overview, audience, tone / branding, your approach, and the impact / results. 2) An about you page (that's about your client) Your entire portfolio website should be written so a client can clearly see "what's in it for me?" Your about page should include a USP or "I help" statement with an overview of your skills and experience written in a way that clearly shows the value you bring to clients. 3) What problem you solve "I'm a VA, copywriter, graphic designer, web designer, and dog walker." So what does a client hire you for? Because it sounds like your attention is split into too many directions to be an expert at any one thing. Get crystal clear on what service you offer, how it solves problems for clients, and how they benefit - and you'll book more projects in no time. #freelancingtips

For my fellow creatives who were laid off across multiple companies at this point, the freelance market is pretty healthy right now and I suspect it will be for some time as more and more orgs are looking to outsource all creative to agencies and contractors. There are a few lead generation services that help drive clients your way but a really interesting one has been Thumbtack. It follows a bidding model like anything else but pulls from its own front-facing website and from there, it's up to you to sell to a client who fits your criteria (and vice versa) since they reach out to you. While you absolutely should have a website, you can upload samples directly for people to sift through to get things rolling. It's advisable to embrace some degree of entrepreneurship moving forward as this is the only true security one can have in today's climate. This is a good start to it. I'll put an invite link that'll give us both $100 for leads in the comments. For anyone who hasn't priced freelance work before, take your old hourly rate from your old day job and add 40-60% on top. Hourly is better than per project to help stave off scope creep and I recommend all editors and designers limit their revisions to 2 before additional charges kick in. There are a few tutorials on YouTube to help you with targeting but I wanted to toss this up before the weekend so folks can think of what samples they want to put together. Good luck! #creatives #creativeprofessionals #video #photo #freelance #graphicdesign

Do you always resonate with your clients? As a freelancer, I thrive when working with brands I believe in. While I enjoy diverse experiences by working across industries, I am starting to think that there's power in specializing. Investing in clients I connect with personally yields better results. It could be the same for you too, right? Writers, Designers, Consultants and more. At a time when you're still establishing yourself, what's your approach? Carefully choosing clients or going with the flow? Would love to hear from you! #freelancerlife #clientstories

Back in February, I set out to become a freelance designer, dreaming of a life crafted on my own terms. The reality hit hard: - Zero experience in running a business. - Facing fierce competition from those charging $5 p/hr - No network, feeling like it was me against the world. There were mornings I started with tears, and the idea of going back to a 9-5 job began to seem tempting. I constantly asked myself, "Does it get better?" Despite the struggles, one thing was clear: I am not defined by my mind or my emotions. Nothing is bigger than my dream. So I kept pushing. From persistence, insights were born from pains. The journey led to self-discovery: - My creativity thrives in various forms - I want to help purpose-driven people - I aspire to build my income through my passions By chance, I stumbled upon organic content on LinkedIn. I took a deep dive. I studied how others create their content, tried different styles relentlessly, and tailored my content so it felt more like me. Gradually, my path became clearer. I can wrap my design and writing skills in one offer: content design. These can help my clients from 3 aspects: 1. personal branding 2. organic content marketing 3. lead generation If I could go back to February I would tell myself: Your path will show itself to you if you keep walking. P.S. If you are interested in my offer, DM me "content design".

Freelance travelling copywriter in pursuit of a meaningful life ✍🏼 Turning adventures into story-driven content for brands celebrating people and place 📍Where's Ems?
** Please consider this request closed, I’ve got lots of wonderful freelancers to speak with, thank you ** I'm looking for some fellow freelancers who can lend a hand with my branding, please! I'm always faffing about with my website. Always changing colours, fonts, and my business name. Always tweaking my niche and my services. And yes, even as a copywriter, I sometimes struggle to find clarity in my content. Because, like everyone, I'm too close to my business to make sense of my ideas. Anyway, I've been working on a huge, scary, dreamy, possibly career-defining project that's made me question everything....again! 😅 Please help me! It can be one person or a couple of people who can help me: 💡Get clarity on my offerings, audience and general business direction. 💡Design my brand, which *may* include a new website or at least some direction when it comes to SEO. This is something I want to work on this year. I'm in no rush. Which means I'm probably not ready to hop on a call just yet; I'd rather peek at some examples of work and get some rough costs. If you know someone (or are someone) who can help, please drop your recommendations in the comments below. Thank you! *Picture of a blood orange and pistachio frangipane I scoffed over the weekend for attention* #branddesign #freelancing #branding
